Others have tried to capture the universe of Dune but have fallen short. Director Denis Villeneuve, and his co-authors Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth, have nailed it beautifully. The film is jaw-droppingly beautiful, the acting is solid, the effects stunning, and the story tight. And the Worms... oh what wonderful, terrible creatures they are.
I've collected and watched every previous attempt to capture Herbert's vision on the screen. They aren't all bad, and some are solid efforts with imaginative depictions, but none could quite reach the fullness of what the novel gave us. This one does.
I first read the book in 1965, and have read it several times since, as well as most of the sequels. Seeing this film made me want to read it yet again. I anxiously await Part 2.
