Customer Review

I got this because I'm nearing 50 and realized I don't listen to music much because I didn't have a Bluetooth connection to my existing 90's solid state Harman Kardon tuner/amplifier. As well, the HK has the left channel out on the "A" speakers. The speakers I have are 90's Paradigm SE 5 mk II'S and also a set of bookshelf Paradigm Atom V.3' I scored for $20 the other day.

I read a couple of reviews, liked the idea of a tube amp and bit the bullet. It arrived quickly of course. When I set it up I decided to try running both sets of speakers (despite the amp not having 4 outputs) by connecting 2 speakers 'on the same wire' - continuing the wire from the front speaker to the rear. I wasn't sure it would work but saw not chance of damaging anything so tried it.

The results - WOW! I never really believed that an amplifier was a big part of a system's sound... thought it was all in the speakers. I'm quite certain the Douk sounds better than my HK did even when new. I even plugged the HK back in just to compare again... the HK sounds flat (in a bad way) unclear and without the detail and almost 3D element of the Douk. The Douk makes me want to listen to music.

Sadly, Chinese manufacturing has often become synonymous with low quality and 'good enough' performance. Clearly this company actually cares about sound. My only worry now is that it won't last, but it does appear that the company has been supporting its customers..
