  This will find breaks in wiring, but not shorts. At least it won't be able to locate shorts in a specific area of your wire. It will simply tell you the line is shorted. And as for locating wiring, this device works great. I work in instrumentation and there are a lot of wiring in the building I work at. So I use this device to locate wiring for different circuits. It definitely saves a lot of time compared to the physically push and pull method.
