It's Akira. Not much can be said that hasn't already been said. I'm one of those anime fans who truly appreciates every little aspect of this film; the AMAZINGLY DETAILED AND FLUID animation (seriously, it's like Stanley Kubrick went on to animation or something), good voice acting, fantastic story, good characters, unique soundtrack, and unforgettable images and action sequences.
Akira was one of--if not the--first anime movie I saw, which I saw at a young age (like 13 or something), and ever since then images and bits and pieces of it stayed with me. I didn't understand what was going on, but I thought it was an amazing piece of work all the same.
Anyway, the film itself is basically about a biker gang that gets caught up in the affairs of a secret military operation involving telekinetics and psychics ( forget what they were called) when one of their own is revealed to have these latent powers. However, Tetsuo, the new subject, quickly escapes and uses his new power to wreak havoc against the government that performed their tests on him, with horrific, apocalyptic consequences.
Buy this movie. It is a legendary film, both art-wise and anime-wise.
This movie came in good time, as usual.
