Customer Review

The Evil Dead franchise has had its ups and down. Even the fact it can be considered a franchise is a little odd to people who remember the begining, as is its complete reliance on the character of Bruce Campbell's Ash. When this remake/reboot came out, I don't think people knew what to make of it and defaulted to comparing it to the originals. Evil Dead Rise changed all that imo, showing that it could be something new. This led me to want to revisit this older film, as well as, the director who has gained some traction with his other suspense films and Alien Romulus. Say what you will about plot, he does know how to make a visual feast.
In that context I would recommend this film, and the steelbook currently very well priced, to fans of modern horror. It shows some of the Evil Dead's roots, but overall is an excellent introduction to what I hope will become a new horror franchise. Time will tell, but some going by these two films (Rise) I would recommend.
