The cheaper clips open a millimetre wider but the action is not nearly as predictable. The opening action of the Clover clips is smooth and does not vary clip to clip. As well, they are beautiful, with what looks to be higher quality plastic and metal parts. They are little jewels! Overall the Clover clips are smaller but the tiny jaw means that you can leave the clips on the material until they are quite close to the needle. Now that I have the Clover clips, I do not use the cheaper ones and I will buy more Clover in the future. If you are concerned about the cost of Clover clips, the cheaper ones do work.
