this is a well designed kit great for arduino beginners. you dont even need to do anything with arduino to make it work, it comes pre loaded. its fairly simple to build, most of my issues came from the instructions, the pictures made it difficult to determine which way things were oriented, and theyre on a huge sheet which is hard to read the instructions on top when laid on table.
the tank frame is well made and a great platform for future development. the frame is aluminum, and it has slots etc. on top where you can add more sensors or boards, and the weight balance would improve.
i didnt give it full stars for a couple reasons. most of the pieces for the suspension are plastic and seem as if they could break easily, though i havent had an issue yet. the other larger issue is that the IR sensor is part of the shield and is mostly hidden by the frame of the tank, so it doesnt respond to its IR remote unless it has line of sight to the back of the tank. other than that its minor things such as i find the obstacle avoidance program extremely basic, the tank moves full speed and waits too late to turn, when it does, its a fast turn that often gets the side of the tank caught on what it was trying to avoid. as well since it moves so fast its prone to miss or react too late to things such as chair legs. either way it provides a good base that i can code to fix myself.
