  This little cartridge contains silver-coated balls that are supposed to keep the water in my humidifier from getting stinky or sour. While it does seem to work for now, the product description wasn't clear, so I didn't know until I received it that it is meant to be replaced monthly. This makes this a very cost-ineffective item. It is also MUCH smaller than I imagined it would be based on the images - I can't help but think that if it was bigger, it might last more than a month before needing replacement.
