I wanted to monitor transmission temperatures with my 2012 (E70) X5 while towing, and information about most OBD2 dongles was pretty scarce when it came to specifics like that. I emailed a few vendors, and VEEPEAK was one who replied with a clear response, confirming that the unit would do this, with the proper app. Most Android apps won't read that value, but both Bimmerlink (about $60) and Car Scanner ELM OBD2 (by OvZ in Google play, $6.50 for the unlocked pro version) can connect to the VEEPEAK to display real-time transmission temperature. I went with the Car Scanner pro license, and it even shows my transmission lock-up value, which will be great for towing!
So, feature set is excellent and the price (I paid $30) is very reasonable; I deducted one star because the Bluetooth implementation is a bit perplexing... it doesn't show as connected or disconnected in my phone Bluetooth settings (even when it is connected), and has sometimes taken me a few tries to get the various apps I've tried connected to the dongle. Maybe I'm missing something in the order, though, or it's behaving unusually while I'm testing different apps one after the other. Once it's connected, it's been stable, at least, for the short drives I've used it on.
