Like Sword Art Online and Log Horizon, to name just two anime series, Overlord is about a Japanese male (an adult in this case) who becomes trapped in a futuristic VR MMORPG he has been playing for some time. Unlike the other series, in this case the main character happens to play a demon in a guild of monster characters. So part of the developing plot involves the main character losing his humanity and having to act evil even when he really wants to help "people" (the npcs of the game world he finds himself transported to) He reconciles this at first by finding rational reasons.for his decisions. Sometimes the npcs of his guild conveniently do this for him, since to them he is a god incapable of making mistakes. Another major feature of the plot is Momonga's/Ainz Ooal Gown's quest to find other players of the game who are trapped in this new world with him. To do this, he takes the name of the guild as his nom de guerre and makes himself as conspicuous as possible. This series, based on the novel series of the same name, has some action but a lot more drama and character development. Season 2 has already been announced in Japan, so you can look forward to more of the anime version. Highly recommended.
