Customer Review

I bought this bag of Potassium Bicarbonate after I got a nasty powdery mildew outbreak across most of my garden soil. Prior to trying this, I tried cinnamon (which everyone on the internet swears by) as well as removing the top 2 inches of soil and replacing it with new top soil. Neither worked, likely because the mildew was too severe. I decided to ultimately go with Potassium Bicarbonate after a lot of research because it's the only treatment that actually kills powdery mildew on contact but doesn't kill birds and beneficial insects like bees. Although things like baking soda and milk solutions have also been found to be effective, they keep the mildew from spreading but don't kill it. I've done 4 once a week treatments with the following mixture: 1 Tbsp Potassium Bicarbonate + 1 Tbsp Liquid Castille soap + 4 Litres of water. I've poured that mixture over the soil using a watering can and used it to spray my plants. It's significantly reduced (95%) the powdery mildew. My garden is not 100% powdery mildew free and some of my plants got leaf scald during my use of it (a few died) but overall it's done a great job. I don't know of any other product that kills powdery mildew on contact and has less of an environmental impact.
