Not too often I get wowed by a product, but I gotta say wow!

I hooked this up to my Black Mamba cage encasing my Canon R7. I liked it so much I went on a Smallrig spending spree and decided to try this grip. It attached in a couple of minutes, most of which was screwing the nato rail attachment on to the left side of the Mamba.

Then this grip just slid on and locked. It totally feels like it was made from a mold of my hand. What I like about it too, is it has a latch which allows you to swivel it into different positions, all of which lock with a nice snap.

The R7 isn鈥檛 a particularly heavy camera, but the model is now in the stratosphere of having no built in flash. Luckily, the sensor is so good even inside the house shooting family activities it exposes well with no flash needed. But there are times when a flash, or some other sort of lighting helps. I have a few lights that range from lightweight to heavier that should do better with a light stand. But I鈥檓 not a pro. Anyways, I can attached lights to the camera now, microphones if needed, a Smallrig handle etc. Rigged out, we have a heavy R7. This handle is a new world controlling that weight. I usually use my left hand to balance and support my R7 under the lens, unless I have something like a nifty fifty on it. But now, even with my 100-400 I can grab it from the handle and hold it upright. It feels great. It looks great. And repositioning the handle allows for great flexibility in shooting angles. Especially with video footage.

Smallrig, to their credit didn鈥檛 just piece something together here, this feels well built. My only concern is the latch that loosens it to rotate is plastic. I hope it lasts. It seems like it will, but I would have liked that whole mechanism made from metal.

The grip has a great texture and is non slippy. You have a cold shoe and screw mounts atop for more expansion.

I love it! So much so, that I bought the wooden version too. Now the wooden model doesn鈥檛 rotate, it鈥檚 static. But the quality is remarkable.

Kudos to Smallrig for this great little universe they have designed and built. Makes me feel like I鈥檓 a kid playing with LEGO again. I鈥檓 just glad they chose the route of quality for their designs and not junk.

Ive had to use one of my fishing tackle boxes to house all the small parts and pieces I have purchased from Smallrig. A tackle box is a great storage idea. They should make one themselves (maybe they have one IDK)

    Anyways highly recommended
