This is a decorative piece that should be kept out of the elements if placed outside, as it is made from foam board and not wood. The pieces fit together perfectly, and the paint kit with bright colors will get kids away from their screens, at least for an afternoon. It reminds me of a gingerbread house which would look so nice with mini lights.
As an actual birdhouse, this kit is not ideal. There isn't an easy way to open the birdhouse to clean out each year for the next season. as well, the opening is too big to keep out predators. I would suggest that if this kits interests your kids in birds, the next step would be to buy a real birdhouse and keep this birdhouse indoors on a shelf.
