  It works surprisingly well for its simplicity.
  I have varied the supply voltage continuously between 2.5V and 11V. There was no noticeable difference in the produced sound in the range from 5V to 11V. For lowest supply voltages one can hear sound distortion.
  I have also tried 16 Ohm, 8 Ohm and 4 Ohm speakers. The best results (highest volume for the same supply voltage) were obtained with the 4 Ohm speakers.
  Edited on July 22: I have removed one star because the audio socket developed an unreliable contact - one has to wiggle around the audio cable to find the position with full contact! I would send it back for a replacement, but now it's past the one month return window.
