This Criterion edition of The Royal Tenenbaums is predictably thorough and entirely enjoyable. One could not ask for more in the way of extras, and the quality throughout is exceptional. The film itself ranks as one of Anderson's best, and it doesn't lack in ambition, scope, and character. It is my favourite of Hackman's many roles, and he achieves pathos despite caricature like none since Sweet and Low Down's inestimable Penn. A terrific package, and highly recommended.
