So far after 2 hours of having this cane I'm disappointed in the lack of instructions re: light/batteries. The mixed misinformation that comes from Q &A does not help at all.
As for actually trying the cane for the purpose I bought it, as stand assist, ...the flexible foot defeats that purpose as it is not steady enough to give any assistance to standing up as I hoped it would.
That said, it seems to be ok as a simple walking cane, and handy to fold up. I may find it more useful after having it a while. So for that reason I won't go to the bother of returning it.
I won't bother spending another $24 on batteries!

Update ...I change to 5 馃専s
After 24 hours of judging for myself, although it is not what I bought it for, I find the second handle useful support to me when bending to pick something up, to hook over the edge of the bed so it doesn't fall down, and a number of little but important things that make life a little easier.
Apparently batteries are not as expensive as one person claimed in the Q&A. 麻豆区 sells them at a reasonable price.
So I have ordered batteries. It might as well have It's full potential. 馃檪
    Edit #2
I got the batteries. There is no way to make them properly to work! Good news is they fit in my old cane, that this new one was replacing! So now the Light works on it!
This new cane is fine sturdy as a walking cane in daylight and the extra handle is good for support when I have to bend down, which is important to my needs. So for those reasons I'll keep it.
Just would have been nice to have had the light and alarm features as advertised.

Edit: after 4 months. It doesn't stand by itself, the handle is neither cushioned nor comfortable, the proper batteries fall out all the tiime and the light falls apart now. Giving it 2 stars now as a spare.
