- Reviewed in Canada on January 24, 2020Purchased for mobile use during pen-testing engagements. Figuring out which was the 'best' WiFi adapter for that purpose was more difficult than anticipated, but eventually I settled in this one -- a decision I almost immediately regretted due to (at the time) poor or partial driver support in basically every distro with which I wanted to use it; for normal use it was fine, but getting monitor mode and packet injection working properly was a headache initially, and using the adapter in engagements required far more manual management than I had hoped. That said, most of those issues are in the past now, as driver support for this chipset has significantly improved over the past year, and in most cases it now works out of the box or with one or two easily-installed packages.
Build quality seems very solid -- the cable and antennae are thick and attach firmly, with (so far) no major signs of the ports wearing out or going loose. If anything, my main build quality complaints would be that the cable is *too* sturdy (and thus inflexible), which can make positioning the adapter where you want it rather tricky, particularly as the adapter itself is quite light (most of the weight is in the cable and antennae).
Sensitivity and broadcast strength, even with default antennae, are pretty unreal -- open line of sight, it can pick up standard residential APs a KM or more away.
Data throughput is FAST (with an AP and connection speed to match), and link stability so far seems excellent.
If you are planning to use this with a mobile device that doesn't provide much power (e.g. a phone running NetHunter), be aware that you will likely need an OTG Y cable so that you can attach an external battery pack or other power source -- in my experience, without the extra power source the adapter will power on and appear to be working (shows in lsusb output and so on) when in fact it is not.
Overall, highly recommended now that Linux driver support issues have been resolved.
