I bought this BBQ, and after it was delivered, but still in the box, I learned there's a newer model (Woodridge Pro) that had a few extra bells & whistles, was a bit larger and cost a few bucks less.

I was going to return this one and get the Woodridge, but 麻豆区 worked with me to incetivize keeping it.馃榾

I bought an accessory grease bucket attachment and bottom shelf that made this unit comparable to the Woodridge Pro, except for grill area. A bigger BBQ seemed like a good idea, but if I don't need the space I'll be burning more pellets than necessary.

When I put it together I was impressed with the size and weight of it. They didn't spare the steel! Darn near killed myself getting it up a flight of stairs by myself. However an extra pair of hands made assembly easy.

Out of the box and put together, I realized that the size of the grill is no longer an issue: I don't think I'd be better off with a bigger one. It has space for 2 full size briskets (one on top rack, one on bottom, and you could probably squeeze in more stuff at the same time. It has ample space for four full pork rib racks, maybe six if you squeeze them in.

Served my first big meal from the grill yesterday (Saturday).

I started on Thursday with a full ~13lb "packer" brisket. After trimming it was ~10 lbs. Ground the leftover meat trimmings, made & grilled 4 burgers for dinner. The flavor of the burgers was great, but the grill doesn't really sear like a charcoal or gas BBQ would. I'm getting a cast iron searing plate, the size of which will be the burger capacity limit.

I seasoned the meat with mustard, salt, pepper and light seasoning and left it in the fridge for 24 hours.

The trimmed brisket went on the upper grill at 7pm Friday. Put a pan with the trimmed fat under it to render the fat to tallow, and catch drippings. And left it. No spraying, checking, or fussing.

Around 10 am, the Traeger phone app alerted me that the brisket had reached 175掳. I wrapped it in butcher paper and by noon it was 203掳 and ready to swaddle in a towel and rest in a cooler. Then I put on four full racks of ribs for the 6 hour 3-2-1 rib recipe.

My brother's family came over (12 ppl total) and we sat down to dinner at 6pm. The brisket was amazing. It came out of the cooler at 142掳. Great bark, pink smoke ring, super juicy, and tender. Full of flavor and honestly very easy. Not a scrap leftover. 10/10.

The ribs were juicy and flavorful, but not as tender as I would have liked. Needed more liquid &/or time &/ or heat for the wrapped cooking phase. Two racks eaten, two left over.

    7/10.

The BBQ itself? 9.5/10. I'm happy I kept it, but now my brother is buying the newer model just to be spiteful. My old charcoal grill / smoker has been permanently retired.

One thing to be aware of is the cost of operation. I used about 24lbs of pellets, which cost ~ $24 for one low and slow, spectacular meal. This is using Traeger brand mesquite pellets. Other brands are cheaper; I may give them a try; though the flavor from the Traeger pellets was spot on.

My propane grill uses about $1 of fuel per meal. I'll be keeping it for my weekday steak and burger grilling, and splurge on Traeger pellets for weekends and special occasions.
