- Reviewed in Canada on August 17, 2024I got this computer back in July because I was in need of something that had HDMI capability for a public speaking appearance I was doing. My normal public speaking computer was no longer working so I was in a rush to find something I could use. I saw the price on this and it looked like a pretty good deal.
The computer arrived a day or two before I had to speak so basically I checked that it would work for what I wanted and it was in good condition. I remember being surprised when it showed up and there was no HDMI port on it because I could have sworn that the listing said it did. luckily I happen to have a couple of USBC to HDMI adapters kicking around. I tried plugging one of them in and the HDMI worked just fine. I figured I must have just misread the listing and never gave it much more thought. After the speaking engagement I came home and didn't really use the computer much until recently because I have another speaking engagement coming up in a few weeks. Up until now I thought this was a pretty good computer for a pretty good price. Then I started actually really looking.
First off I just discovered that I did read the listing right. It claims in multiple places to have an HDMI port yet my computer has no HDMI port. I then took a close look at the listing photos and discovered that the photos are actually of two different computers, neither of which is the one I received. The one I received looked much like the solid gray computer in two of the pictures but the one in the pictures clearly shows an HDMI port on the side.
One thing the listing fails to mention is the fact that you cannot really update this computer at all if you want it to do anything more than basic net surfing. The computer continually tells me there are security updates available. When you go to update though you are informed that the computer is available for extended updates but if you install these updates you will be unable to use any of the apps from the Google Play Store or use anything that uses Google Play services. So you were basically left with a choice to either have security updates for the next number of years or you can keep your computer as it is with no security updates and unable to update anything from the Google Play Store. Either choice makes this computer next to useless within the next little while.
I have also found that the computer heats up rather quickly when sitting in your lap. The heat gets bad enough at times that it burns against bare skin.
The computer case and keyboard buttons Etc are all in really good condition so I will give it that. Besides that I plan to use it for the speaking engagement in a few weeks and then return it because it is not at all really what I paid for but I do not have the time or energy to try and get another HDMI capable computer quickly. I'll just wait until holiday sales and get myself a decent one.
