The software takes up a strangely large amount of disk space. Possibly because of the large variety of furniture. On top of this, virtual desktop windows opened in 'Oculus' also often crash and get replaced with an orange exclamation mark, with no indication as to why it is no longer working. There are also times when the headset strait up stops working with a black screen displayed on the headset. This is sometimes remedied by removing the HDMI and USB cords, or changing the port they are plugged in. Restarting the software or windows can sometimes help as well. I suggest that you create a strain relief for the cords by fixing them to your desk or something sturdy so they don鈥檛 pull on the connectors connected to your PC.
Software aside, the hardware is alright to wear for a few hours of gaming before it becomes uncomfortable. Tracking for the controllers fails completely when they are vibrating, as it messes with the accelerometers inside and is not compensated for by the software. This causes your virtual hands to often fly off into the distance or flop around when they vibrate strongly. The lenses can be difficult to clean completely with microfiber cloths as well. While the center of the lens provides good visibility, the edges are blurry. This makes about 25%-35% of the screen blurry, often making it a necessity to turn your head towards objects you can see to make out what they are clearly. Text at the very edge of the screen, consisting of about 15% of the screen space is unreadable.
As a VR experience in game, however, it is a great experience. Few of these issues cause a noticeable impact while in game, other than the game being killed by windows if you don鈥檛 have enough ram (ordered some more), or having your virtual hands embarking on a trip to the north pole without you (you can turn haptic feedback off in 鈥楽teamVR鈥, but not 鈥極culus鈥).
Oh, and one last thing. The controllers eat batteries (AA) every 2-3 days of use, so get 4 rechargeable batteries and be sure to factor that into the cost of the unit. They are always on with no physical off switch, other than removing the batteries. I鈥檝e been using Eneloop with good results (Panasonic KKJ17MCA4BF).
