If you buy this machete expecting to use it out of the box as is, you will be disappointed. The blade is not sharp. It's the worst I've seen on any new knife. See the video. The first cut was a lucky one, the next few were terrible. This is why it loses stars. Not everyone knows how to sharpen a blade (properly) I also noticed that the angle of the edge on either side is not equal. It's also smaller than I expected; when i see the word machete used, I expect a much longer blade. The metal used for this is D2 steel. If it's done well (properly heat treated) it is a great steel. It should hold an edge very well, and is very resistant. A hardness of 60 means it's not as soft as some German kitchen steel, nor is it as super hard like some crazy high end Japanese steel. It's a great middle ground. The only thing is I suggest oiling the blade every now and then, as it's not the best corrosion resistant steel.
