Customer Review

The adapter was exactly as shown on the pictures & the product works as expected. With this adapter, my softmodded Original XBOX is able to boot properly without any issue as the dashboard shows up just like it should. I'm happy to confirm this product helped me perform my 1TB SATA SSD upgrade easily.

IMPORTANT NOTE: (HDD/SSD upgrade can be a lot more tricky than expected)
Yes, like others have mentioned, you will also need to purchase an "40-Pin 80-Wire Ultra ATA 2-Drive Ribbon Cable", ideally 24" inch to be able to perform your HDD upgrade. That said, once you have that ribbon cable, this adapter should work perfectly, though that is if you're using it as a "Master".

To be perfectly clear, I actually have purchased a different adapter from another company (the one usually recommended for softmodded Original XBOX HDD upgrades) that I ended up using only to perform the HDD cloning. It's possible that it was faulty because ironically in my case, even if it has the "Master" & "Slave" pins, unfortunately it's unable to boot the dashboard as it seems to function only as a "Slave" with my WD Blue 1TB SATA SSD, which was a real bummer quite frankly. That's why I had to purchase this one to complete the upgrade, which does NOT have the "Master" & "Slave" pins but at least, it works as expected as a "Master" once the cloning process is over.

I get the impression that some of the previous reviewers (the ones who said that this product doesn't work for performing a Sofmodded Original XBOX HDD upgrade) probably tried using this adapter (as a "Slave" only.) So they probably thought it didn't work at all. While in fact if they would have had the other chip as mentioned above & that they would have tested this one as well, (booting the console after the cloning process is done), they probably would have realized that this chip works as intended if it was used specifically to boot the console, then they would have seen the dashboard show up...

    CONCLUSION:
In other words, if you ever end up buying the supposedly recommended adapter (the one with the 2 capacitors & the "Master" & "Slave" pins on it) and that once you have performed your HDD or SSD upgrade... (cloning Data from the IDE HDD to SATA HDD/SSD)... If your XBOX doesn't boot up properly & that you get (an infinite black screen or a Microsoft fatal error message) right after the XBOX logo shows up...

Then I would recommend buying this adapter that you will use as a "Master" like I do. Just remove the non-fully-working adapter (with the 2 capacitors, Master & Slave pins) then install & use this one instead. This should solve your issue right away. Hope my review will help clarifying things & that it answers certain questions that some users may have.
