- Reviewed in Canada on May 4, 2020In most ways, these R1850DB speakers are just what I needed. Big improvement on tv speakers in terms of volume and frequency response. Basic tone controls allow you to bring in more bass, plenty for me, but if you want more you can add a subwoofer. I use Spotify on my Fire Stick, and music now sounds great from the tv thru the speakers over the optical connector. Bluetooth works well and easy to connect.
Unfortunately, the remote is not good. I have had the speakers less than a week, and the remote is pretty much non responsive. I will try replacing the battery it shipped with, but notwithstanding, I'm still a little disappointed. These speakers are not compatible with tv volume controls, so they must be controlled by the remote they shipped with, or a learning remote keymapped with the OEM remote. You most likely can't use your existing tv remote or receiver remote by punching in a code. Lose or damage the OEM remote and you will be paying $30cdn for a new one, and walking to your tv to adjust volume while you wait for it to be shipped. I don't want to take too much away from the overall purchase, but if you place a lot of stock in the remote or being able to control everything from your tv remote, this could be a deal breaker for you. If you have a cost effective resolution for this, I'd love to hear it.
