- Reviewed in Canada on May 30, 2025I chose this OTTOCAST Play2Video Pro adapter for an easy way to view video content on my vehicles 13.4-inch infotainment screen. The OTTOCAST screen occupies a certain portion of this larger screen, while certain areas remain dedicated for the vehicles use. This adapter uses the exact same screen real-estate that my iPhone uses in hardwired CarPlay mode.
This OTTOCAST adapter has three possible uses; The OTTOCAST home screen with its selection of apps; Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. I tested the latter two with a Pixel 5 and iPhone SE3 and they work as excepted.
The OTTOCAST home screen allows handle phone calls and play music from your phone over a bluethooth connection to your phone. If you connect the adapter to Wi-Fi, such as a hotspot, you can play internet content with the built-in apps; alternately you can access content from a USB memory drive connected to the adapter. I connected a 32GB flash drive, and a 2TB SSD drive and both worked great for playing .mp3 music and .mp4 videos. The adapter itself is 16GB, with about 7GB free space that you could use to store media files on. The built-in file explorer on the adapter allows you to move and copy media.
The adapter came with two cables for added flexibility to complete the connection to your vehicle. A double-sided USB-C, and a USB-C to standard USB, both cables measuring 1-ft end to end. I attempted to use a longer cable from home and found that some USB-C jacks were bulky to fit the recessed port of the adapter, but I did find some cables that worked.
Overall, this is a great adapter for establishing a wireless Android Auto or Apple CarPlay connection. It is also great way to have video capabilities aboard, or to play media content from a connected USB drive. In all cases, it requires that your vehicle has factory wired CarPlay for this adapter to work.

- Reviewed in Canada on May 21, 2025I've been using this for about a month now and I really like it! The wireless Carplay and Android Auto functions work as expected with minimal lag and rare dropoff (I've experienced more random dropoff in my work vehicle with factory integrated Android Auto). The sound is clear and touch controls work as expected while the centerpiece of this device is the Netflix and YouTube integration. I have been using this with no issues on my stock 2017 Ford Mustang headunit as well as an aftermarket Alpine ILX-W650 headunit in my commuter car.
Wireless Carplay/AA:
First off, this unit overall utilizes an Apple Carplay emulator, so to get it to work you have to boot it up through carplay, but the software uses an Android operating system, so when you open it with wired Carplay it'll display "Android" (confused yet?). Once the OS is booted the main menu is easy to navigate and the instructions are clear on how to pair your phone using Bluetooth. Once paired you can select Carplay or AA (depending on the phone) and it'll display as it would for whatever interface it is. The response lag on screen presses is minimal and about the same as factory wireless, sound quality is great and all the features work as expected. The only downside is the Bluetooth only audio, which I will get to later in the review.
Video Entertainment:
The unit comes with a mobile version of Netflix, YouTube Tik Tok lite and others I am not too familiar with. They need an internet connection to work, so you'll have to hotspot your phone, or you can download movies. There is about 6gb of internal storage as well as a USB-A slot to expand using a USB stick. If you download movies/shows from Netflix into internal or external storage you don't need an internet connection, however you will need the initial connection to download them. Formatting and switching to external storage was easy and intuitive in the setup menu and downloaded shows have been playing with no issues. I was using a firestick adapter before, which required a hotspot as it had no internal storage and it required a second plug for power, this is much more convenient. You cannot download any other apps unfortunately.
Cons:
-I found that with my phone if it was connected to the Bluetooth and I had Netflix going unlocking my phone at any point would switch the audio to Bluetooth music from my phone and kill the Netflix audio, which was annoying. It took a while to change some settings to help prevent this, but it still happens occasionally.
-the audio quality for phonecalls in Bluetooth mode is poor, but works fine when I'm using the Android Auto app, which is strange, but I cannot seem to fix it, so calls should be done through the head unit BT, the AA or Carplay integrated apps and not the BT function on this unit.
-there is no ability to add other apps like Disney+ or Prime video like you can on a firestick adapter.
Overall this is a good adapter with lots of functionality at a fair price.

- Reviewed in Canada on May 26, 2025I’ve used OTTOCAST products before and was excited to try the Play2Video Pro for the added YouTube, Netflix, and Spotify support. Setup was simple—plug and play worked as expected, and the interface is smooth with no noticeable lag. It’s great that it supports both CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly, which is a big plus for families using different devices.
However, the biggest downside for me was the audio crackling issue that started as soon as I connected this unit. It really takes away from the experience when you’re trying to stream music or watch something while parked. Everything else from connection speed to app access is great, but the sound quality drop is a deal-breaker for long-term use.
If they can fix the audio problem in a firmware update, this could be an excellent upgrade. Until then, it’s good—but not quite great.
