4.0 out of 5 stars A basic PoE tester than needs better instructions
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 9, 2025
鶹 Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
The PoE tester arrives with a short, flat style Ethernet cable, which is convenient. However, no instructions are provided with the device itself, which means users unfamiliar with PoE testing might struggle to interpret the results without external guidance.

The product listing does offer some basic interpretation:
    ---
    3. Interpret the Results
PoE LED indicator will light up if PoE supply is detected.
Endspan Light On: Power is typically delivered on the data pairs (pins 1-2 and 3-6) from the PoE switch.
Midspan Light On: Power is injected through the spare wire pairs (pins 4-5 and 7-8).
If both lights are off, the cable likely does not carry PoE power.
    ---
What the listing doesn't clarify, however, is what it means if both the Endspan and Midspan lights are on simultaneously, which is the state for my current PoE setup. My devices are working perfectly fine, so I know there isn't an issue, but the lack of explanation for this specific scenario is a significant oversight.

Despite this instructional gap, the tester does serve its fundamental purpose: it clearly indicates if PoE power is being delivered (if at least one light is on) and if there's no power at all (if both are off). It has its uses as a basic testing tool for PoE setups, but clearer guidance on all possible light combinations would make it far more effective.

5.0 out of 5 stars Basic Pin Detection.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 7, 2025
鶹 Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
It's a small device that you just plug in and it should ideally tell you what PoE the leg of a run is using. However, it doesn't have a passthrough option so it only shows the default behaviour of the PoE injection.

For my PoE injector, it was showing endspan on 1/2,3/6. That's all we really know from it, there is power and it's endspan by default.

Overall though, a nice little connector that you can quickly see if a ethernet cable has any PoE power in it. For most modern tech, it won't matter the pin configuration for PoE so all we're interested in is if its powered without tripping on the PoE injector or switch port... and for that it does it's job.
