    This kit has everything you need to get started as a beginner to do 3D work, namely needles, roving and a work pad. But since it comes with tons of needles and roving in lots of colours, you should be able to go quite far with a few projects before needing to restock.

    Also, including the handles, finger guards etc. are some important nice to haves to get going comfortably. The included shape moulds are certainly alright, but once you get the hang of things you'll probably quickly stop using these.

    One thing to note is that since the kit doesn't include any felts, it's not really meant to be doing flatwork, but since it has everything else you need, you can get started on your 2D projects with a quick trip to your craft store for said felts. Also you may want a bigger felting mat for doing flatwork, as the included one is only about 3x5" or so, but would be sufficient for smaller starting projects.

    There are no instructions included, which is a bit of a shame for beginners, but there are plenty of good tutorials on youtube if you just search "needle felting for beginners".

    My kids love being crafty and so I got this kit for them to try something new. Obviously with the needles, it isn't a great choice for kids of all choices, but with my 7 and 9 year old it worked well and because it comes with everything you need, they had fun with it. They loved creating cutesy kind of food/animals/fluffy creations, and they found some online tutorials that made it easier.
