The finish on arrival is natural acacia wood, included in package were instructions for oiling the wood to protect it and retain its beauty. I went the extra mile and followed the instructions for giving it a complete permanent finish. Which was a labor of love, because I am so thrilled with this product (amazingly @under$120.00), I want to keep it forever. The finishing really brought out the beauty. For me it was worth the effort. My deck is my favorite place on earth and this added more seating (max. 300lbs), storage out of weather for cushions, potting soil, tools, etc..and a practical and beautiful added design element.
