    Got this whole big set of carbide hole cutters for the same price as a single name brand cutter. I work with a lot of 22 gauge stainless steel and thicker mild steel and these passed the first test. I just needed to drill a single 7/8 hole in some 22 gauge stainless for now, and the 7/8 bit performed beautifully. I’ll be using it on some 16 gauge mild steel tomorrow, and from there tons of other projects.

    If you’re cutting or drilling stainless steel, the trick is to use low speed and heavy pressure to take out nice long curls and minimize “work hardening” of the metal. Push hard and turn your drill down and they should be good for dozens of holes in stainless. This is an insane deal for a usually very expensive tool. They performed just as well on 22 gauge stainless as an expensive greenlee cutter I borrowed from an electrician for a different project. The pilot bits are standard TiN coated and I expect them to wear out quickly, but the set comes with two spares and you can get more for cheap. The hole saws should last just as long as the name brand ones if used properly.

    They’re easy to use as long as you understand the properties of the metal you’re cutting. There’s a size for just about every common application, and if you use them properly they should hold up really well.
