It works more or less as expected, but they do not include a power adapter. This will, however, only be a problem if your computer does not have a USB port that can deliver at least 3 amps, or 15W. If your computer does not have a port with 3 amps of current available, you can do a search for part number LK-1001C (the AC Adapter is SA-AD-001). Still, for the price they ask, it is rather annoying that they do not spend the extra $5 to include a power supply.

I'll start off by saying that once this scanner is fully connected and set up, it works great! It's able to quickly scan documents and able to scan double-sided documents in one pass. It also has great features such as removing blank pages and scanning different size documents as well as cards such as a driver's license. The scan quality is also really sharp, producing nice crisp images of your documents or pictures.

That said, this scanner is a bit frustrating to set up. It's part of a family of three different scanners, and this one is the most basic one. To my knowledge, it appears that this can only be set up via a USB port to a computer, not a phone and it has no wifi. The instructions do not make that clear and I spent a whole bunch of time trying to set up the mobile app on my phone , set up Wifi, etc. as I was just following the instructions and the manual and provided via the QR code that is in the manual. The instructions seem to be catered to the two higher end models.

The best way to get this set up is plug it into a PC via the USB-C port, and go to the Brother setup website to download the appropriate software.

The other thing I would note with this scanner is that it is intended to be connected to a computer with a USB-C port on it. As such, the scanner is meant to be powered by that USB-C port and transmit data over the same USB-C port. It does not include a power cord for computers using the old style of USB port. If you do not have a USB-C on your computer, you will need to also purchase a power cord and a USB-A to USB-C cable.

That said, most newer computers have USB-C ports on them so it is not too big of an issue anymore.

Now that I'm all set up with it, I really do like this scanner and I'm looking forward to quickly scanning high quality documents!

I got this document scanner to use with our business expenses and other business forms that are paper based. This unit works great for us because we needed one with an automatic document feeder. There is no way I am doing one page at a time. The scanner works well in this regard and can do 20 pages at a time, double sided. Being able to do both sides at once is pretty awesome too. No more re-feeding the pages in the on the opposite side. The results are of the pages are really good and everything is very legible just like on the actual paper. It also worked well on our receipts as long as we didn't have them bent too much. Business cards were another scan that worked well for us using the card slot. The software is nice in that it can create searchable PDFs from the documents you scan. I also tested the scan to thumb drive and this works fine as well. So being able to scan to computer or thumb drive is a nice feature to have.

This scanner connects to your PC or laptop over USB-C and is powered over this connection as well. You should make sure that your computer can accommodate this type of connection. If it can't, you can get a power supply separately that connects to the barrel jack. It is kind of weird that they did it like this as I'm sure a lot of people will need to purchase this power supply. I would have liked to see it included in the box. Luckily for me, my main business computer works fine with it. Overall though, this scanner is well made, creates high quality scans and has some great features like the ADF and creating searchable PDFs. It has really made our life easier in terms of scanning documents so I would recommend it if you are in the market for something like this.

I am quite happy with the smooth operation of this scanner by Brother, it is simple and easy, for anyone to use. But I do agree with the other users that just providing a USB C cable so that it can run both power and data was a bit short sighted on their part, I'm not sure why they would do that. And it just happens that the PC I am using it on does not have a USB C connection either. But at least they had ports for everything - there is a USB C, USB A and a 5V proprietary port for an adapter, so it was not difficult to do. I had the 5V adapter from a different machine (I'm the type that keeps all my cords in a box even after I discard a machine), and USB A cables are definitely easy to find laying around. So it was easy to install in the end, although, I do think it should have been included. But the operation is easy, it scans and saves flawlessly, so if your home or business scans alot of stuff, like receipts, documents, etc, this machine is actually quite good, and the unit is small and fairly space saving, great for my home office. I did debate between 4 and 5 stars, but I went with 5 for the operation since most tech homes should have the extra cable or USB adapter, or hub that should get this to work.

Its extremely fussy. It will stop scanning in middle of scan and claim jam when actually nothing is wrong or scan all the way thru and then say jam and not give an image. And a few of the "included free software items" on their support page don't actually successfully install on my brand new computer. Brother's response. - we aren't responsible for 3rd party vendor products so we can't help you". So why do you have products that don't work on your Brother support page and you offer no support when they won't install. Also if it does a scan and for whatever reason it thinks there is a jam and its in PDF mode it does something so that you can scan any document after that and you get an error until you shut down the software on the mac and restart it. Sadly I think it could be a good product if they got the bugs out and if they fix the software they have on their download page. I came close to sending it back. I probably should have and ordered a Canon or similar. Their support was pretty much useless in regards to my issues. I wish I could give it better reviews. I like the design. Image quality seems good.

if you use Mac or iPad you need to down load from the App Store there are a few downloads but which one do you need
I haven't worked with the iPad yet but it maybe interesting also the ads 1300 doesn't come with a power plug so the power off the computer and power draw from computer there is no wireless capable in this scanner not really happy with the unit but it will work for what the packaging is good but set up for apple can be a pain and no live tech support why not

I used an earlier model of this scanner and loved it. However, this model does not come with a power cord. 😒 I had to buy a separate cord. A power cord should always be included. I didn't even to think to check the fine print since older models came with a cord. 👎🏼I still rated the scanner high because I know it will work well . . . just super irritated that there's no power cord.
