The operation is pretty simple, and you should be able to figure it out easily. Fill with your soap mixture to the line, tighten lid, and spray. The first couple seconds of spray will be weak/not foamy because it takes time for the bottle to pressurize. The way around this is actually to run the compressor for a few seconds without opening the spray nozzle to pre-pressurize the bottle. You can do this by sticking your finger under the blue spray lever and activating the compressor directly (it's a red nub). After the bottle is pressurized, you won't have issues with pressure or foaming until you run out. The spray pattern is flat, and you can adjust whether you want the spray orientation to be horizontal or vertical. Spray coverage isn't comparable to a foam gun or a foam canon (the ones that attach to a pressure washer), but then a setup like that would cost a lot more than $30 so you can't really complain. Watch the video, I'd say it's good enough.
The sprayer goes through its 1.5L tank surprisingly quickly. I'd say I can generously cover maybe 60% of my car before I need to refill the tank with another 1.5L. If you've bought this product and don't know how much product to pre-mix, I recommend using milk jugs (the 4L kind) to store and premix your soap to get the PIR concentration your soap requires. For a normal wash (1 coat alkaline pre-wash, 1-2 coats of ph-neutral soap), I bring 1 jug for pre-wash and 1 jug for contact wash.
Battery life - I've used this to wash my car 4 times now, starting out with a full charge, each time doing 2-3 full coats over my car (mid-size Accord coupe). No battery concerns whatsoever. Maybe if you've got a full-size SUV or pickup truck and you want to do more than 2 full coats, you'll run out of battery. But then in that case, just hook up a battery bank in between rinses and you should be good.
The foaming action is good. I think foaming depends more on your soap than the sprayer itself. If you want it to foam well, make sure you're buying soap designed to foam. My Bilt Hamber Touchless Pre-wash soap doesn't foam super well, however my CarPro Reset soap foams really well and really thickly. I suggest playing around with dilution to see what soap concentration % works best. Make sure to mix your soap well before pouring it into the sprayer tank.
Also, don't neglect proper maintenance. Rinse out the tank after you're done. Run clean water for 20-30 seconds to get your soap out of the pipes and out of the foam piece in the nozzle. Then take the nozzle tip apart and make sure the foam piece air dries fully!
