Product Overview

Featuring a 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4GHz, Raspberry Pi5 delivers a ×2 to ×3 increase in CPU performance relative to Raspberry Pi4. Alongside a substantial uplift in graphics performance from an 800MHz VideoCore VII GPU; dual 4Kp60 display output over HDMI; and state-of-the-art camera support from a rearchitected Raspberry Pi Image Signal Processor, it provides a smooth desktop experience for consumers, and opens the door to new applications for industrial customers.

For the first time, this is a full-size Pi computer using silicon built in-house at Pi. The RP1 provides the bulk of the I/O capabilities for Raspberry Pi 5, and delivers a step-change in peripheral performance and functionality. Aggregate USB bandwidth is more than doubled, yielding faster transfer speeds to external UAS drives and other high-speed peripherals; the dedicated two-lane 1Gbps MIPI camera and display interfaces present on earlier models have been replaced by a pair of four-lane 1.5Gbps MIPI transceivers, tripling total bandwidth, and supporting any combination of up to two cameras or displays; peak SD card performance is doubled, through support for the SDR104 high-speed mode; and for the first time the platform exposes a single-lane PCI Express 2.0 interface, providing support for high-bandwidth peripherals.

RP1

Raspberry Pi5 is built using the RP1 I/O controller, a package containing silicon designed in-house at Pi.

USB 3 has more total bandwidth, for much faster transfer speeds.

Camera and DSI display connectors are interchangeable, so you can have one of each, or two the same.

More than twice as fast and infinitely smoother

Raspberry Pi5 features the Broadcom BCM2712 quad-core Arm Cortex A76 processor @ 2.4GHz, making it up to three times faster than the previous generation. With RAM variants up to 8GB, this is the fastest, smoothest Pi experience yet.

DA9091 Power Management IC

Integrated with eight independent switch-mode power supplies to generate various voltages required for the circuit board, including a four-phase core power supply capable of delivering a current of 20A, powering the Cortex-A76 cores and other BCM2712 digital logic.

All aboard the PCI express

This addition to Raspberry Pi allows you to connect an M.2 SSD to your Raspberry Pi, giving you speedy data transfer and super-fast boot.

Power button

When you plug your Raspberry Pi into power for the first time, it will automatically turn on and boot into the operating system without having to push the button.

If you run Raspberry Pi Desktop, you can initiate a clean shutdown by briefly pressing the power button. A menu will appear asking whether you want to shutdown, reboot, or logout.

Select an option from the menu or press the power button again to initiate a clean shutdown.

Dual 4Kp60

Utilizing HDMI dual 4Kp60 display outputs, the redesigned Raspberry Pi image signal processor provides consumers with a smooth desktop experience, opening new doors for industry users to explore innovative applications.

Real-time clock

The Raspberry Pi 5 includes an RTC module. This can be battery powered via the J5 (BAT) connector on the board located to the right of the USB-C power connector.

UART connector

The Raspberry Pi 5 has a dedicated debug UART connector. It has a maximum baud rate of 921,600bps, which can be configured with an EEPROM parameter. It is always active and enabled, and provides direct access to early boot and firmware information; as well as a Linux console after boot.

Installation: The active cooler is connected using spring-loaded pins into two new mounting holes on the motherboard, and the fan is connected to a 4-pin JST connector.

Note: Do not disassemble unless necessary. If disassembly is required, use appropriate tools (e.g., needle-nose pliers).

Installation Procedure and Method

In the upgrade of the classic case, an integrated switch design is adopted, allowing the operation of the switch button without the need for external tools. There is no need to worry about attaching or losing a separate switch accessory. The case installation is easy, aesthetically pleasing, durable, and forms a sturdy unit.

Note: The mainboard of the Raspberry Pi5 contains many precision components. Please avoid using excessive force during installation or removal. Utilize the pliability of ABS material for smooth assembly and disassembly.
