Cleaning the inside of our jetted tub seems like a no-brainer, but cleaning out the lines never occurred to me. The Active Jetted Tub Cleaner has very easy-to-follow instructions on the bottle, as well as an easy-to-read level of ounces (going down the side) to know how much of the cleaning agent you're using. This cleaner suds up as soon as it hits the water and continues to do so all while the jets are running. DON'T LEAVE UNATTENDED!!! I have a long spray handle attachment on our jetted tub, so I used COLD water to keep the suds at bay while the jets were running. I know that the lines to our jetted tub haven't been cleaned since we moved in 7 years ago. I was expecting to see some filth and grime swirling around, but I didn't notice anything abnormal. Hard to know if the lines were fine, or if the cleaner didn't do much. To be fair, our tub is an indoor jetted tub that doesn't get much use. I imagine things might be different if this was used in an outdoor hot tub or jacuzzi that gets used more than a handful of times each year. I do like that the cleaner doesn't have a strong chemical odor. The manufacturer recommends using this cleaner once a month, you get 8 months worth in this bottle.

    Oh, confession time. I hadn’t cleaned my jets in a long time. I didn’t think anything would be able to clean the mess that had accumulated for God knows how long. This product worked wonders. The jets were cleaned on the first try and the same time, the tub cleaned as well. Bet little effort on my part, now that is my kind of product.

    Tub had been unused for several years. There was a lot of black flakes coming from the jets. Ran a flush this stuff. Black color in the water. Drained and rinsed. Next day did another cleaning. After drain and rinse jets were perfect. Zero flakes.

    As others have noted, this product foams up far too much. I've used jetted tub cleaners before, but this is the first one that foams up when I use it. That makes it fairly useless to me -- I want to fill the tub, put in some cleaner, and run the jets for a while.

    It seems to have done a reasonable job cleaning, but it's not worth the headache for me. They need to add some sort of anti-foaming agent into it.

    I have used a similar product with good results and so I am considering trying this one for the next time that I drain my hot tub.

    Oops, I just reread the directions - this product is used starting with a freshly filled tub of warm water. After its application, the tub is drained. As such, following the directions means filling (and heating) the tub just to use this product - this may be appropriate for small bath tubs, but it is hardly water conservation friendly for hot tubs and jacuzzis. I've read the other reviews and others appear to have used this product like its competitors i.e. just prior to draining their tub before refilling it with fresh water. I will try that and see how well it works on "dirty" water as opposed to "fresh" water.

    My other complaint is the lack of precision in the instructions. The purpose of this product is to clean the jets of tubs from the build up of gunk. But, what is unclear is how much to use - is that determined by the number of jets or by the volume of the tub, or some combination?

    The label says "For large jacuzzis and hot tubs, a higher concentration of liquid is recommended." So given that the 32 oz. (US fluid ounces) bottle is good for 8 uses or 4 ounces per use, how much do I need to use for my 1,500 litre hot tub? Going to the web site on the label was no help because this specific product was not even mentioned on the web site.

    ADDENDUM

    The seller contacted me to offer me a refund for my less than fully satisfactory purchase (which I declined).

    They went on to reveal that this product was intended primarily for jetted bathtubs and that, while it will also work on hot tubs and jacussis, the instructions regarding using fresh water for its application in those devices are probably not logical. They said (despite the instructions) that the product would work in the water that was about to be drained. Further they said that they will soon be introducing a product directed specifically for hot tubs and jacussis with appropriate instructions. Kudos for excellent customer service!

    Do you wonder if this product works better than regular household cleaners? Do you really need a special solution to clean your jetted spa?

    I should mention that my tub has a self cleaning function, which has kept the jets pretty clear for a number of years. But I guess the automatic clean needs an assist every so often because I recently started noticing black flakes emerging from my jets. First a few and then more and more until I stopped using the jets completely.

    After googling for ideas on how to clean the jets in my tub, I tried white vinegar, dawn dish soap, heavy duty laundry detergent and dishwashing machine detergent. First of all, don’t use more than a few drops of dawn, the jets make it foam way too much. You can’t run it long enough to get a good clean and it makes a mess. The laundry detergent was a little better suds wise, but didn’t seem to do much cleaning at all. The white vinegar and machine dishwashing detergent worked pretty well (i used them successively and then together, running the spa through 4 different 20 minute cycles with a solution of hot water with several cups of vinegar and a double portion of the machine dish detergent. Lots of black flakes emerged and then fewer and fewer. The spa was greatly improved, but it was stubbornly still throwing off a few flakes every time I ran it with clean water. I wanted completely clean jets.

    So I went back to the internet, this time to 鶹. This product was on a flash sale and I decided to try it on my now “mostly clean” jetted tub. I ended up using a third of the bottle because my tub is pretty big. I followed bottle directions and this time a yucky greasy brown film emerged even after all the pre-washing I did.

    It was all worth the effort, however, because after that final run, no more black flakes appeared on the clean water rinse. Eureka! I can use my tub with the jets running again.

    When I moved into my new house, it came with a jacuzzi tub, which was very exciting because I’d always wanted one. However, I had heard that jacuzzis can get dirty and grimy, so I didn’t want to run the water until I cleaned it first.

    I bought this cleaner and used it as directed. It was pretty strong, so I’d recommend opening a window or having good ventilation while using it.

    But it really worked—removed a lot of nasty buildup from my tub. I only used it once, and the tub has stayed clean ever since.
