For a multimeter, the Plugable USB-C Amperage and Voltage Tester (USBC-VAMETER3) manages to fit a lot of useful features into a sturdy little package. About the size of a USB flash drive, this bidirectional USB tester allows for full USB data passthrough while it monitors USB-C power and charging, measures voltage and amperage, even visualizes the directional flow of electrical current�Call in real time.

Connect the USBC-VAMETER3 inline between a USB-C host system like a laptop, tablet, or cell phone and a charger to use it as a USB voltage meter or power consumption meter. An updated OLED screen means a brighter and easier-to-read display in any lighting conditions, and a new orientation button lets you flip the screen with a click.

USB quick charging QC3.0 and Power Delivery-PD / QC4.0 is meaningless without the right cables.

Not all cables charge fast or even communicate (charge only) like the magnetic type. And some USB-C adapters limit Power Delivery to be old low current compatible.

This meter helps to pick the right cable and adapter combinations for the focus device. That is if concerned about getting the fastest recharge for the power back or the smart phone when needed quickly.

Story: just received a new power pack that came with a cable that did not support the fastest charge rate of the battery. Good battery,cheap cable - who is going to know?

Story 2: Existing 130 watt laptop charger with USB-C used to charge a power pack with 40 watt fast charge input -makes sense right!? Well the laptop charger does not have a PD profile to match the power bank so it defaulted to 5 watt. It would take forever to recharge the block; the meter pointed that time waster out.

What I cannot predict is how many in/out cycles the USB- C connectors on the this meter can take. I mention this because the fit is loose; maybe a good thing for less connector stress possibly resulting in longer connector life???

I particularly like the button the change display orientation.

I'm not sure about this but I think that there is some thing with this device that makes the charging for the actual device slow down, as the readings are slightly low compared to the other testers that I've used.

However, the OLED panel is very useful for reading clarity, and these devices are very useful to catch a device behaving abnormally. I have had a phone stuck on charging and i could have been saved if I had this with me.

As well, this is one of few readers to be future proofed for up to 240w, as there will be devices of high power in the future. That was the reason I bought this in the first place.

This is a very easy to use device that helps you to know how much power is being delivered over a USB C cable. Just plug one end into the device and plug your cable into the other end, and it instantly shows the voltage, current, and wattage being used. It also has a bold arrow that shows which direction the current is flowing, so if you plug this into a computer and plug a device into this meter, it will tell you whether the computer is being charged, or the computer is sending current to the device. You can use this to determine if your phone is fast charging or slow charging, and how much current is being used.

A small button, when pressed, will change the orientation of the screen,

Conclusion: Just get one - or two, or three. I keep them on the end of all of my charging cables.
