From the manufacturer

Enjoyment That Stays With You
The luxurious tone and expressive ease of playing stays true to the basics of a real piano. It almost plays itself, releasing the sound and music you have within. Start your day with music and a huge smile on your face—the ARIUS piano makes you want to play more and more.
Beautiful, Powerful Sound Sampled From The Acclaimed Yamaha CFX Concert Piano Grand Piano
The YDP-165 features a piano Voice sampled from Yamaha’s flagship CFX concert grand piano—a renowned piano that delivers sparkling highs and a powerful resonant bass combined in a superbly expressive sound.
The YDP-165 has the same detailed sound—from the lower keys to the higher keys—full of clarity and rich in colorful harmonic content. It gives you extraordinary expressive power and nuance, that authentically responds in your daily practice as well as your most emotion-filled performances.
Authentic Acoustic Piano Playability And Half-Damper Pedal Control
With an 88-key piano action, the GH3 (Graded Hammer 3) keyboard reproduces the touch of an acoustic piano, from a naturally heavy feel in the lower key to a lighter touch in the upper octaves. The GH3 keyboard provides a grand piano-style response and feel, allowing rapid note repetition and authentic expressive control. Moreover, there’s a half-damper feature that authentically replicates the damper action on a grand piano, providing rich expressive variation.
Harmonic Resonance Like That Of A Grand Piano - Virtual Resonance Modeling Lite (VRM LITE)
One of the allures of the grand piano is the sympathetic resonance created by the vibration of the entire instrument. The YDP-165 elaborately reproduces this rich sympathetic resonance through a groundbreaking technology called Virtual Resonance Modeling Lite (VRM Lite). VRM Lite creates a richly varied sound by simulating the complex sympathetic tones created when the vibrations of the strings are propagated to the soundboard and other strings, corresponding to the timing and intensity of key playing and pedaling.
Rich, Powerful Sound Provided By The Tone Escapement Construction
The YDP-165 uses a newly developed tone escapement construction on the back of the cabinet that emanates sound from inside the piano. This allows you to experience the natural sound radiation and three-dimensional resonance like that of an acoustic piano.
Rich Variety Of Built-In Songs And Intuitive Operation with Smart Pianist App
Naturally, the YDP-165 has an authentic grand piano sound, but it also features various other built-in instrument sounds, for a total of 10 Voices—including electric piano, organ, vibraphone, and strings.
The YDP-165 also has 353 built-in songs, including 50 famous classical songs, and 303 comprehensive practice exercises from famous methods, such as Beyer, Burgmüller, Czerny, and Hanon. The instrument is also compatible with Yamaha's free Smart Pianist app—simply download the app to your smart device and connect it to the instrument*.
With the Smart Pianist app, you can easily operate the various Voice functions of the instrument and use it to call up scores of the built-in songs. It also features a comprehensive Piano Room function for changing the tonal quality and resonance settings of the piano sound.
* A cable connection is required. Make sure to purchase the correct cable for your smart device.
Features For Greater Listening Comfort When Using Headphones
The YDP-165 employs new technology that corrects the sound balance optimally according to the volume you set—giving you an exceptionally natural sound that’s easy to listen to and is gentle on the ears, even when playing for a long time.
It also has Stereophonic Optimizer effect that lets you enjoy the natural, spacious sound you experience sitting in front of an acoustic grand piano, even when wearing headphones.
Stylish Design Matches Your Room Interior
While based primarily on straight lines, it has a stylish design that incorporates elegant curves that are typical of a grand piano. Moreover, you can choose from a variety of color variations the one you like to suit your interior and personal taste.

- Reviewed in Canada on October 14, 2023Verified PurchaseI really like the digital piano as I expected: the colour, the tone quality as well as the way it sounds when played. But the delivery was not what I expected. I live in a condo and they just left the big package in the elevator.... It would have been better if it was delivered to my door.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent Digital Piano
Verified PurchaseYamaha pianos are pricey for sure, even their digital brands. But we all know why. And I'm not disappointed at all. I purchased the Rosewood digital version, and it arrived promptly in a few days. Big package and heavy, even for the UPS driver. The unit was extremely well packaged, no damage at all, and all the parts were there. Some assembly is required but it's really simple and straightforward. The only trouble I had, assembly it alone, was how heavy the main section piece (the piano keys assemblage itself) was, so be careful lifting it if you're doing it alone. Optimal is placing the main part of the YDP with someone else helping out.
Once assembled the Rosewood is beautiful. Yeah, it's not a 80K grand piano build, but for what you are paying instead I find it fits the bill. The real value of this baby, however, is under the hood. Literally to, since one of the nicest features of this YDP is a sliding cover on the keyboard, and it is very smooth and slides just like a regular piano over the keys. The keys themselves, are high quality, and again, no difference really from an actual piano - including weight, touch etc.
But like I said, the real value - where all the money is going is "under the hood". Once I plugged it in and listened to it - and played it for my first time. Wow. Like, this is about as close to a Yamaha grand piano you'll ever get inside your home. And you can even wear headphones while playing on your grand piano. The sound from this YDP is incredibly authentic - you really actually do feel like you're playing on the real thing. So, it's money well spent if you're serious about your piano playing and can't afford or have room for a grand piano inside your house. I'm a happy camper. Haven't even tried out all the extra features that come with the unit, though I did decide to go with this YDP-165 model as I didn't need so many extra bells and whistles as the more expensive 184 has. But the 165 still comes with the computer App you can plug into the piano using USB, and has a number of useful other sounds including Organ. Also has a built in metronome and quite a few other features (as you probably already have read about.)
No complaints. Worth the investment. Recommend! It's Yamaha right!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great digital piano - recommended
Verified PurchaseTo be honest, I didn’t get chances to try digital pianos of other brands - I just found a YDP-144 in nearby Guitar Center and feel it’s good. Then I ordered YDP-165 from 鶹 thinking it won’t be wrong to get one even better. Having Yamaha YDP for half month so far I’d say it’s a good decision to buy YDP-165.
Pros:
The keyboard and sound of YDP-165 is truly like a real acoustic piano. The key’s weight is exactly right to me — and I remember YDP-144’s key is kinda lighter but I cannot tell much difference since I don’t have chance to compare them side by side. And I even feel YDP-165’s keyboard delivers better feel than entry-level acoustic piano I have in the house of my hometown, as YDP-165’s keyboard uses anti-slippery materials which reduce the chance of pressing wrong key.
Anyway, I totally have no complain regarding sound and keyboard of this digital piano. I can use this digital piano to play “The Maiden’s Prayer” comfortably - so I think this piano would be well suitable for beginner to at least intermidate-level players.
The design and color are beautiful and elegant too. The compact size well fits my small apartment (even it’s not YDP S series) .
Cons:
The craft isn’t as good as IKEA furniture (see photos), so you may notice some tiny imperfection. Some screw holes’ position isn’t 100% accurate so it may take some of your energy to well install the piano; but these are just tiny details. After assembling the piano is quite solid. Overall, the quality of Yamaha is reliable.
Unlike some models in CLP series, YDP-165 doesn’t have screen and more than a dozen of buttons on control panel. I prefer YDP’s simpler control panel because it makes digital piano more like a traditional acoustic piano instead of digital keyboard. The negative side is that it’s difficult to set up your piano. Leaning how to use key combination to set up piano is even harder than learning how to play “The Maiden’s Prayer” , so you may have to buy a MIDI cable, or spend another 50 dollars buying a Yamaha Bluetooth adapter to connect piano to your iPad. I think Yamaha should have the adapter coming with Piano for free as YDP-165 is already sold at a much higher price in the US compared to Asian market. Also you have to buy an additional 6.35mm earphone adapter if you want to connect your earphone/headphone to this piano.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful piano!
Verified PurchaseI ordered this piano to replace my Yamaha P-115. Although the P-115 has been a great piano for me, I wanted to upgrade to this model for the look. I was pleasantly surprised at the beautiful sound and realistic feel of this piano. The sound is crisp and clear. I purchased the rosewood color and it’s a beautiful addition to my home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds and feels like real piano
Verified PurchaseI’m not an expert at pianos, but grew up with a real piano. And this feels and sounds like a real piano and not a digital keyboard. And the dark wood looks very stylish. I prefer this wood material over the standard black plastic I see most keyboards have.
