I know these are not a Starret but I am not paying Starret prices. I am reviewing these against their cost and they are Fantastic. For a start, they start at zero (some rules do not) so they can be used to measure depth etc.. The lines are actually engraved and blacked against what is a reasonably none shiny surface. So they should be easy to see in many light conditions and the line will not wear away. The numbers are not etched, I think they are just transfer prints on the surface so they may wear away eventually.

Both sides of the ruler are identical and the steel is slightly flexible so you should be able measure slightly rounded or concaved surfaces more readily.

I use a metal ruler almost everyday as a graphic designer. I often use them for plain measuring but also for scribing lines especially with an x-acto knife or other finely honed blade. Nothing beats a metal ruler for that. I also like the kind of metal ruler that doesn't have a cork bottom side or something that makes it lift from the paper. I like the edge to be as close to the substrate as possible. So this YYJ ruler hits all the marks for me. I measured the indexes to be sure they are accurate, especially the first inch and first centimeter, which if they are cut wrong in manufacturing, can also be short. But I am happy to report that all the measurements and units are spot on, exactly perfect. People are complaining about the edge, but I like the sharp edge, it gives me confidence as I am running the blade next to it while cutting paper or mylar. The only thing I wish it were 18" inches instead of 12" that would be the sweet spot for me, but I can live with the 12" inches. I am also thankful for the hole in the end, so I can hang it near the desk with my other ruler. All in all, this ruler has added to my professional life and will be useful to me. Plus you get a pair of them at that price, I didn't know that, because although it is mentioned in the title, it is not mentioned in the sales text. All the better!

In terms of accuracy, these rulers match up with what my other tape measures say. They are sturdy enough and strong enough to do precision cutting by using a straight edge. An exacto knife won't cut into the side. Unfortunately, the edges are sharp and not well-finished which makes them somewhat dangerous to handle. I wouldn't recommend using them without wearing no-cut gloves or handling them without touching the edges. They are economical for metal rulers, but that lack of a proper finished edge is troubling.
