I was a bit nervous when I opened the box and discovered the shelves are made of what appears to be nylon mesh. I had assumed they were made of metal mesh. However, after assembling it, which is easy enough, I realized the advantages of not using metal; namely, it's very light and the bit of slack that the mesh has, helps seat the shoes. I wear men's 10 1/2 and the rack won't hold 36 pairs of my shoes. It holds 2 1/2 pairs per shelf for a total of 30 pairs. I could see it hold 36 pairs of women's shoes easily though. The rack performs perfectly so far, clearing the door frame when full. Very well designed. If it lasts, I will consider it pretty perfect.

I’ve purchased 2 other over the door shoe racks only to find that the top hooks don’t allow the door to close. This one works perfectly as you can see in the photo. Other reviews said you can only get 2 pair of tennis shoes in one row but why not double up your sandals for that additional space? I was even able to store my purses. Note: the door won’t open fully against the wall because of the way the poles stick out and certain shoes that extend off the edge but for me it’s not a deal breaker. Putting it together took a bit of time but instructions are clear. Overall I’m satisfied because my main concern was the top hooks making the door stick and these do not.
