IMPORTANT: Please check the RabbitEars website to see if the ATSC 3.0 channels in your area show a padlock icon indicating that they are DRM encrypted. ATSC 3.0 channels that are DRM encrypted will not work. DRM encryption is used by select broadcasters to block out-of-home viewing, limit what player devices can be used to watch TV, enforce that the original tuner hardware is always present to view recordings, and to block third party apps. Optionally a broadcaster can force recordings to expire after a period of time and/or block recording completely. If all ATSC 3.0 channels in your area are DRM encrypted you can use any HDHomeRun FLEX model to receive channels using ATSC 1.0.

Watch Live TV from different devices
Depending on which HDHomeRun product you choose, you can be watching Live TV wherever you want in your home, whilst another family member watches a different channel. On a different device. In another room. Add more HDHomeRun products and more people can all watch live TV simultaneously.
HDHomeRun. Endlessly expandable.

Internet connection is required to use the HDHomeRun apps with the HDHomeRun FLEX 4K.
ATSC 3.0 DRM: Some ATSC 3.0 channels may be DRM encrypted and will not work. If an ATSC 3.0 channel is DRM encrypted the HDHomeRun FLEX 4K will use the ATSC 1.0 version of the channel.

- Reviewed in Canada on May 29, 2023Verified PurchaseFirst off I would like to say I’ve used other HDhomeruns in the past, a duo and a quattro. The Flex 4k is the next step.
The ATSC 3.0 standard is solid compared to ATSC 1.0
I was getting some fringe channels from Michigan across Lake Huron this past week through tropospheric ducting and while 1.0 channels weren’t available after a bit, the 3.0 channels stayed solid. I watched some NHL playoffs on ABC because I could.
The ATSC 3.0 channels look great and the lower bit rate shows that even using the HEVC codec makes video look sharp.
The only downside was getting the audio codec for my pc, but once I got the codec it was all systems go.
I have yet to try this with a firestick, but I would assume it would be great. As some of you know this is a network tuner. It’ll only play through an app or if you’re tech savvy you can take the channel stream and use many other programs to run the video stream.
Hooking it up is simple. Plug in the antenna in the coax input, plug an Ethernet rj45 cable in the Ethernet port. Plug in the power supply.
Download the software, update the firmware, run a channel scan and you’re good to go.
Luckily I haven’t come across any of the channels that have DRM, but as far as I know SiliconDust is aware and it should be fixed with a firmware update.
I use NextPVR to record any ATSC 1.0 channel, there isn’t anything besides the HDHomeRun app that can record the 3.0 channels, but you have to pay for that service (and I don’t know if it’s available in Canada).
This review is longer than anticipated, but I feel like I have so much to talk about.
Hope this helps other customers trying to cut the cord.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 26, 2024Verified PurchaseWorking well in Ottawa, ON Canada - being fed from an antenna on my roof.
It comes with its own included software, but I have set it up to work with Jellyfin as well. However, it appears Jellyfin (currently) only supports access to one of the 4 tuners (which is not a knock on this product, rather a limitation of Jellyfin).
Overall, happy with the purchase.
- Reviewed in Canada on August 6, 2024Verified PurchaseAwesome little device when paired with Plex.
Pros
- Very easy to setup. Once on the network and antenna is hooked up, navigate to the IP adress and scan for channels. That's pretty much it.
- 4 tuners is very handy when recording multiple TV shows at once
- Small footprint
Cons:
- HD Homerun app couldn't find the tuner through VLANs. Discovery doesn't work, cannot manually input IP adress of the device. It makes the app useless to me.
- NIC is only 100 mbps. While it hasn't yet happened, I feel I could potentially saturate it when all 4 tuners are in use.
- No wall mounting options, I had to use double sided tape.
- Runs hot
- Expensive
I'm very happy with it. Wish it was xheaoer

- Reviewed in Canada on May 31, 2022Verified PurchaseThe HD Homerun is one of the best electronic devices I have ever purchased and I have bought a-lot. Easy to install and the setup was a no brainer. I downloaded the app onto my iPad and I was greeted with the option to update which it did. I did not have to find the ip or anything, it just started on my network on it’s own.
I then did a channel scan and it did that. I selected a couple of options to send back diagnostic reports and be part of beta software. The tuners are more sensitive than my tv tuners so a got a few more stations. I set it up on my 3 Nvidia Shields, 2 Apple TV boxes and a PC running win 11. All without difficulty. I have yet to play with the Plex integration but so far it looks promising.
I am very pleased with the HD Homerun!
- Reviewed in Canada on September 23, 2021Verified PurchaseI didn't know what to expect at first. I just installed an indoor/outdoor antenna. Then, I connected it to the HDHomeRun Flex 4K. It worked!! I can receive OTA channels in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Beautiful interface for the Mac app.

- Reviewed in Canada on December 28, 2023Verified PurchaseHad a little fun figuring out what option I would use to record between setting up plex, hdhomerun or any other. Must admit I would be nice if the buying process of the dvr subscription from hdhomerun was explained here somewhere. I’m quite comfortable with electronics and I still had fun setting it up.
Once everything was set and done with hdhomerun, I couldn’t be more satisfied with the result.
- Reviewed in Canada on March 19, 2024Verified PurchaseThe media could not be loaded.
I was wanting to buy one of these for a while. It was well worth it. I like the fact now I can stream all my TV antenna channels to my cell phone and my iPad. This device codes that TV channels way better than my TV a lot of my stations would come in pixelated, but I think that’s because I’m using a relatively low end TV but this solve the problem
