    Alright, two issues:

    1) the seam where the mat folds causes a problem with fully cutting the fabric, I either have to go back and very firmly press on the mat, or risk a jagged edge by cutting with scissors. Honestly even using just the cutter may do this.
    I don’t have an available surface to cut on besides the (hard) floor so this involves me essentially using my body weight to press it flat enough to cut. If I cut on our rug, it does not cut well at all, tons of gaps in the cut even if I use my body weight again. This will cause the blade to wear down a lot faster than normal use would. This also causes the blade to retract sometimes without me accidentally pressing the button. No bueno!

    2) there are holes through the mat, as a design to make it so you can slide it on a wall display. This is unfortunately essential, I can tell it is because a cardstock holder would just tear; I worked enough retail to know this is the case even for light items, and this has heft. So the hole is by design and I get why they placed it, but it’s not optimal.
    So once again there is a gap in cutting. It’s not always possible to just move the fabric so it isn’t on top of the hole. Which is partly my fault, I should just ensure it isn’t on the hole, but, well, you know how it goes.

    It does the job, with some adjustments. It is a good space saver, but it isn’t worth the end cost for my actual needs.

    Unfortunately having to use my body weight to get past the seam issue cuts the mat deep enough it does not self heal as the description indicates. I don’t think I can return it since I am the one who damaged it in a way they probably didn’t expect, so it’s a user problem and not theirs. That is very annoying.

    I won’t be able to use this to cut fabrics that may snag very easily like chiffon, and that’s part of why I got it!

    So, I can’t rate it higher than two stars, day 1 I found this serious flaw with the seam and there simply isn’t a way I could have expected that issue unless I didn’t dig deep enough on reviews. I should have gone through more! But I trusted the brand name due to other products I’ve used in the past including ‘80s heavyweight shears I no longer have from a lot of moves. I’m not sure what happened to them but they were fantastic! I don’t know if they are made anymore the way they were.

    So, if you want a reliable mat, opt for a fully flat one. Skip this set. Maybe get a different blade design as the button is kind of easy to end up pressing on accident if it is sold on its own.
