Reliable Mineral Protection for Sensitive Skin, Just Watch the White Cast
I’m a daily outdoor walker with sensitive, acne-prone skin. I’ve been reapplying this lotion on long sunny walks (2–3 hours at a stretch) for the past three weeks according to label instructions. It absolutely delivers on sun protection, even on six-mile hikes in direct sun, I’ve had zero red spots or irritation. I follow the 2 mg/cm² rule and reapply every two hours; no burn, no peeling. The lotion dispenses smoothly from a sturdy pump, with no leaks. The texture feels lightweight initially, though you must really massage it in to minimize the white sheen. Comparable to other reef-safe SPFs in price. You pay a small premium for mineral ingredients, but I’d rather tolerate the white cast than risk chemical irritants. 👍 Pros: - Very water-resistant—stays put through sweat and washing - No chemical irritants—fragrance-free, paraben-free, hypoallergenic - Broad spectrum SPF 50 blocks ~98% UVB - Reef-safe mineral formula (no oxybenzone/octinoxate) 👎 Cons: - Leaves a silver-white cast on skin - Takes a moment to fully “rub in” if you want it truly invisible

    I really like how effective Blue Lizard is at protecting my skin from the sun. It feels safe, gentle, and doesn’t cause any irritation, which is great for sensitive skin. However, it does leave a noticeable white cast. If you don’t take the time to blend it properly, you’ll end up looking very pale—especially in photos or under certain lighting. I still use it because of the quality and ingredients, but I wish the formula was a bit more sheer.

    I use this sunscreen on my face - specifying because I'm seeing some reviewers imply they use it mostly on their body. I have sensitive and dry skin. I am also sensitive to fragrances. I've had mild irritation and reactions to chemical sunscreens in particular, causing my skin to get extra dry and start to peel, and perfumes would make my nose and eyes water.

    I almost don't want to review this sunscreen because its so great; I want it to stay my little secret. This is a mineral sunscreen. I find the texture is thin and blends in very easily if you rub. There is no pilling on top of my moisturizers and serums, and it reapplies nicely without pilling as well!

    The finish is very matte, not shiny or greasy. To me it feels like a primer. It doesn't smell much like sunscreen either!

    Yes, there is a white cast. But this is difficult to avoid with mineral sunscreens, and to me is a small price to pay for excellent sun protection. I'm not exactly pale (slightly tanned asian skin) and don't find its the most noticeable - I also don't really take photos of myself so I wouldn't know if it shows a lot on camera. I don't wear a lot of skin makeup over my sunscreen, but I do find that concealer blends well on top of this.

    I have no complaints about this sunscreen. One thing to be mindful of is the texture - although thick when applying to the face, will flow out into the cap if you stand the sunscreen upright for storage. I will be repurchasing this very often in the future. Also, it would be cool to try a tinted version of this but you can't have everything you want :)

    Update: I brought this sunscreen to Portugal with me in June, while the sun was on full blast. Reusing this on my face saved me from morphing into a lobster. My bf also agreed that this sunscreen was the best out of all that we tried, in terms of texture and sun protection. I should have brought a whole checked bag of this sunscreen.

    I walk outdoors every single day and I have very sensitive, acne-prone skin. After using this sunscreen consistently for the past three weeks, I can confidently say it works incredibly well. Even during long hikes in direct sunlight, I haven’t had any redness, sunburn, or peeling.

    The pump bottle is well-made and doesn’t leak, and the lotion comes out smoothly. It feels lightweight at first, but it does take some effort to really rub it in if you want to minimize the white cast. That’s honestly the only downside. Still, for a mineral sunscreen that’s fragrance-free and gentle on reactive skin, I think the slight white tint is a fair trade-off.

    This formula stays put even through sweat and occasional rinsing. It’s also broad-spectrum SPF 50 and completely reef-safe, which is a must for me. The price is in line with other mineral sunscreens I’ve used, and I don’t mind paying a bit more to avoid chemical irritants.

    Overall, this has become my go-to daily sunscreen for outdoor activities. If you have sensitive skin and don’t mind a little extra rubbing in, this is absolutely worth trying
