Suddenly I felt this urge to dig in a pile of old DVDs but didn't have any device to play them so I bought this DVD player. Super easy to set up and it works just fine. For reference I hooked it up with TCL 5-series using an HDMI cable. The TV is connected with a sound bar via Optical cable and DVD sound comes right out from that sound bar. Just the HDMI cable between TV and DVD player: no extra audio cable needed, though it was included in the package.

It does play various region DVDs. So far I have tried region 1 and 2. Foreign subtitles work too.

Picture quality is quite poor compared to what I became used to but I don't think it's the DVD player to blame. I'm just happy that I can revisit some cult classics that are impossible to find on streaming sites.

Do not waste your money on this DVD player. One of the annoying things about this DVD player is that the image will not fill up my entire screen. It only fills up about 3/4?of the screen. This has nothing to do with how the DVD is formatted. It’s something weird about this DVD player since DVDs I’ve played on my old DVD player filled the whole screen with the old machine, but not this one. The worst thing about this DVD player, and the reason I am returning it, is that it will not play some DVDs if you have already played it. For example, the other night I watched the first three episodes on a disc of Designated Survivor. The next night I put it back in the player to watch the last episode on the disc and it would not play any of the episodes. All I could get was the main menu. Same thing happened tonight. I put in a disc that I started last night and it would not play any of the episodes. I am really disappointed in this machine.

This is a nice simple DVD player and offers some nice features for the price. The picture quality and sound is very good. It has no problem playing my commercial DVDs from North America or from the U.K. It plays my home-made DVDs, CDs and VCDs encoded on my PC, and it plays my AVI encoded movies from USB without any difficulty. The only odd thing is that it can't seem to play from USB if there's a DVD in the tray, even though the on-screen menu offers me the option to pick the video source.

The remote, although on the small size, has well labelled buttons so I don't need my reading glasses to see what I'm pressing, unlike other budget DVD players I've purchased in the recent past. Also, it's been four months with no playback issues, which is something else I can't say about other budget DVD players I've tried.

Overall, a good DVD player at a fair price.

I possess a considerable number of PAL videos and needed a replacement player when one of my two multi-region ones ceased to function properly. I was pleased to find this unit available (they aren't all that easy to find nowadays), and after some initial trial-and-error attempts I was able to get it connected to a TV monitor and working satisfactorily. Two reservations: given current international tensions, I am not sure that I would have purchased the unit had I been aware of its country of manufacture. A more immediate concern is the accompanying manual, written in a very approximate English and not free from errors.
