I am giving these candles one star because of the false comment in the description that they have a timer. They do not. It is simply on/off. That said, they are lovely candles - the flickering motion is very nice. I have a larger candle similar to this one that although the switch shows "on/off", it does in fact operate on a timer - 6 hrs on, 18 off. I thought perhaps these candles were the same so I just tested them. After the 6 hr mark, they stayed on. So very disappointed. I'd return them but I no longer have the packaging.

I bought these candles a year ago and liked them very much, but these candles are not the same. These candles do not have the automatic on/off timer. They just have an on or off switch and will stay on all the time until manually switching them off. Also, the bottom cover does not screw on tightly like my other ones do. Now, the bottom cover is just a loose fitting bayonet style cover which will not seal out water. Very disappointing and a waste of money for my application.

These aren't the fancier wax candles that I've used previously and that look like real candles on the shelf during the day (but will melt in high temps). Rather, they're clearly textured plastic from anything but a distance. They still look nice in the dark, flickering like the real thing, so I'm ok with that. And more importantly for me, living aboard a sailboat, they're waterproof. So no risk of a porthole developing a leak and dripping saltwater on one in heavy seas and that shorting out the AAs. Should be good for outdoor use as well, therefore.

Speaking of AAs, a fresh set of NIMH rechargeables last well over a month, easily two or maybe even three before they dim to the point of no longer providing any illumination at all. Like other battery-powered LED candles I've owned, you know they're gone when the timer stops working and they just flicker all day. I use one of these in the head as a night light.

Sailboats are constant maintenance (but worth it!) and it's nice that these don't add to the list of ongoing chores.
