Amazing Customer Service, and a Terrifically Terrible, Punny Game

Amazing Customer Service, and a Terrifically Terrible, Punny Game
I had the pleasure of playing this game before it came to mass market, and had some great fun with it. The quirky, puntastic names made me smile with every draw. Each card has it's own unique text, even if images are duplicated (as it is a set collection, trick-taking game). I call it terrible because you get to be terrible to your opponents while laughing and enjoying the experience together. The customer service comment comes from getting the final game. I received one of the very few copies that was missing some cards. After reaching out to Grandpa Beck Games, they gave honest apologies and made every effort to get me a new copy of the game as quickly as they could, and even a bit extra! Highly recommend this game, and applaud the company for their great products and service!

    I love this game!
It takes a round or two for some to get your strategy Going, but I love that you think you’re winning and then at the end you could lose it all!
My 10 yr old cried at the end of it, I convinced her to play again and she was quick to figure out her strategical game play and dominated the next game! Now she asks us to play to constantly🤪
It’s a fun, different game to play with the kids and we also played it with our adult friends and the more beer....the more confusing it would get lol
When you master the regular game, it has an option for a more difficult version with constellations!
Also love that the makers of the game will answer any questions you have about rules!

I think I will be finding some more games by these game makers! My family is always begging me to get new games for our weekly game night!

    Excellent purchase!

This game is quite fun. You play copies of your creatures on your turn to cover your kingdom with the most amount of points by the end of the game.

Creatures at apart of certain clans, and have certain abilities which will affect how they are placed. Some cards at as a wild and have higher value, some will allow you to do different things to your opponents kingdom or your own.

It's a lot of fun, I would definitely consider this game.

Very similar to another game from Grandpa Beck called “Cover Your Assets”. This one is a little more complicated and tends to last longer, though we did enjoy it a lot.

Would recommend it, but would say that you should try Cover Your Assets first as this feels like an expansion pack, or sequel.

Cover your assets is my all time favourite game! When I saw this I had to purchase it!! So far we have only played the first game (without the constellations) but I love that when we need more there is a new aspect we can learn! The artwork is hilarious and amazing!! The quality is always high with grandpa becks! Super sturdy, detailed pieces and cards. Highly recommend this spectacular game! You’ve outdone yourself this time grandpa beck!

We had a lot of fun playing this game! It has a very steep learning curve, but there are some great videos on youtube (especially by JK studios) to assist you. Also, the manual is very comprehensive. This is the sort of game that gets more enjoyable the more you play and the more familiar you get with the rules. I am anticipating playing this game for the long term.

The game is a little tricky to learn at first but once you get it you’ll have fun! Wouldn’t recommend for young ones of those who don’t have patience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant surprise!

I honestly added this game to my wishlist because it has "CerbeRussel Terriers". I wasn't expecting much out of the game, and it has been removed/readded to my wishlist throughout the year, but I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my 鶹 package.

The presentation of the box itself is very nice. It was a little larger than I imagined (I was thinking something like a Fluxx game). The player boards aren't amazing and my first thought was wondering if they needed to be laminated. They're kind of like the player boards in Castles of Burgundy...

First thing you might notice is the insert - a colorful, simple piece of cardboard dividers in the box, with just enough room for all the components. I hate boxes that have wasted space and take up space on the game shelf!
Side note: I kept both cardboard cutouts for the pieces - the one for all coins is now stored UNDER the insert (so the pieces are less likely to move around), and the other is on TOP of the cards/pieces, to prevent the crown from indenting the player boards/rule book.

The cardboard pieces are thick and have good printing on them. When assembling the crown, you might want to get something to punch out the small holes in the crown to avoid ruining the cardboard (I used an Apple lightning cable). The crown goes around the first player marker btw.

The cards are good quality. I wasn't expecting them to be linen finish since the box isn't and the player boards are eh...but the cards are linen finish and they are the main part of the game. The colors and drawings are all very nice, assuming you are amused by the artwork. The graphic design is good, clear, colorful. I noticed the unicorns were different, and actually every single card has some little difference - the unicorn might have a fishing pole or toilet paper for its horn - every card has its own little quirk. There are geeky jokes all throughout and that's fun! One of the characters is a VulcEnt (a Vulcan Ent) who may have a few Star Trek, LOTR, or Guardians of the Galaxy reference jokes. I LOVE it when cards are all different - just like in Wingspan, Terraforming Mars, and Dixit.

The game is basically a card-shedding game. The fun part is playing your special ability cards at the right time and succeeding in recruiting another player's unguarded "creatures". You also have to balance growing your "clans" and defending them from being "recruited".

It is pretty simple to learn, but I would recommend going over the rules - because there are some small little rules to keep in mind. I would rate it a 1.5 out of 5 difficulty (Crazy 8's = 1/5 and Hearts is 1.7/5). There is a video for how to play, but I like learning a game from reading the rulebook. This rulebook is straight forward and quick to read. The layout is very nice - it has a Contents on the first page, full color, information is spaced very well, and cute little drawings with little jokes on them. I was kind of annoyed that one of the pages in the rule book had a crease in it, but it's O.K. I was able to read it and try out the game while rereading the rules. The instruction manual says there are 131 cards...but I have 141 cards - so the rulebook might not have been updated (after the Kickstarter?) Some confusion I encountered was from adding a creature to a clan and recruiting, but rereading the rules afterwards, it mostly makes sense - It isn't 100% clear still f I can choose to discard and I'm assuming that if I am defending my kingdom and spend cards to do so, that I do not replenish my hand and have to start my next turn with less than 6 cards.

There are also some various ways to play the game at the end: Longer or simpler, add Kingdom Powers or Constellation Prizes, Duellng, etc. There is also a recipe for uniquecorn dogs!

I did originally plan to add this to my repertoire of dinner games, but this game is way too pretty to have chicken finger stains on it! I recommend this game if you are interested in a light, family-weight game, with silly art that is unique on every card with little geeky and corny jokes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional quality: game play and manufacturing

We love this game’s predecessor, Cover Your Assets, which was easy to play even for the young and elderly. This “upgraded version” adjusts for what I thought was perhaps the only weakness in Cover Your Assets: not many chances to alter the outcome of the game.

Cover Your Kingdom includes various types of cards with effects that can more easily chip away at a player’s lead, giving other players more of a chance. Game ends up being more varied and exciting. Directions are clear with illustrations and well-thought out examples. Videos of directions are also available.

I love that the directions include various game modifications: action power cards to give unique powers to each player for an entire round; chips to track progress and goal accomplishment for accumulation of points for longer play through rounds; different but simple rules and fun elements for a two-player game; and extended contests and simplified versions for young and elderly players.

The quality of the cards are exceptional: thick, glossy, textured (see photo). All packaging and contents are high quality and sturdy. Well over a hundred cards and every single one is unique. (See photos for sample.)

So impressed by the thought and effort put into this game!
