- Reviewed in Canada on May 17, 2025Verified PurchaseIt’s very sturdy and thin. I love the whistle and the fact that that it makes a little fishing rod (the knife had a fish scaler so your all set for a catch).
- Reviewed in Canada on November 13, 2024Verified PurchaseEvery part of this tool feels solid. However, just like any multi-tools around a similar price range, there are always some tools that need some work. For example, I took two minutes to sharpen the knife, then ground a 90-degree spine on the knife to scrap the fire rod so that I could save the knife's edge. Replaced the paracord came with the tool with my own cord and design. Also, I don't think it is mentioned, that this multitool when fully assembled, is a very good weapon to hit. Anyway, I am satisfied.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 28, 2022Verified PurchaseI am a hiking and survival enthusiast and I noticed this little tool and decided to give it a try. I believe this can be a very handy multitool to keep in your car or backpack. Here's my thoughts concerning the features it offers:
Whistle: Quite loud, but not as long as a referee whistle. It's actually more of a high pitch single note flute than a whistle. It can still make you noticeable from a pretty big distance if need be, and it could be useful to scare away a bear or other wild animals that are not impressed by your shouts and arm movements.
Firestarter: It's a regular, low-end firestarter, but it works. In case you never used one, here's some extra info. You will need to use it a little before it generates sparks ( get rid of the black paint covering it first, then you'll see ). Firestarters such as this don't have a very long lifespan so in order to avoid using it to death and ultimately making it useless after a few fires, I suggest buying some magnesium shreds or having some very dry grass and thin birch bark when you use it to make a fire faster. Normally you should also have one of those long aluminium expandable straws and blow air in it when while creating sparks with your two hands. I've seen so many people trying to create fire like they do in the movies. It doesn't work like that. Simple sparks alone will not light a fire.
Bottle opener: Very sturdy. It works. It's a little thin, but not too thin to break, I believe. Be careful of the blade on the other end.
Sawtooth: Don't expect to cut a lot of things before this requires sharpening. However, it is very sharp - the ultimate test is when you hold a piece of paper and can easily cut through it from top to bottom with no pressure. I'm assuming it could be handy to carve survival tools such as arrows or a spear, but I'm not sure it would be as sharp as it is on day 1 after you're done carving wood. Personally I would only use it on things that would not damage the blade too quickly - evicerating fish you would catch with your fishing equipment that comes with this multitool is a good way to use it. I didn't use it because I'd rather save it for extreme measures, but I like it a lot.
Fishing line, sinker and hook: I didn't use those because fishing season is pretty much finished. But I intend to try it at least once at some point. When I do, I'll try to take the time to update this review and tell you about it. It's a pretty neat idea though!
Paracord: Honestly, you can't do much with this, it's more useful to just tie your multitool to something so you don't lose it, like your backpack perhaps. If you are busy and still want to catch fish, you could perhaps tie it to a tree branch and come back to it later to see if you got a bite. I would not depend on it, and I would not use it for more than 100lbs weights if I were you. Besides, you don't really have a grip on this tool since it's pencil-shaped and thus can slip from your hand easily. Now if the paracord would be at the center of the multitool, you could hold it with both hands on each side and pull things with it, or hang things... Maybe when they'll make another one they'll think of that?
Glass breaker: Honestly, if you want to break glass, I think a big rock can do the job. It depends on your environment I guess, but in my opinion glass breakers are 99% of the time used by thieves to break in homes or cars. I feel like they're more of a fake security thing for ordinary folk, to make you feel safe against extraordinary events that will most likely never happen to you ( ex: breaking a car's window as it sinks in the water ). Clearly, I haven't used it and I don't think I'll ever do. Maybe I'll break a few nuts with it... Then again I'm afraid the regular impacts could damage the tool. However the glass breaker itself looks reliable and sturdy.
Compass: You need to shake it vigorously for a minute to efficiently break the bubbles enough so they don't impact the given direction. I would say that while it's working, it's not as reliable as a "real" standalone compass ( it takes a lot of time to point the north correctly, and some people may not be patient enough in a survival environment and be misguided ). I would not depend on it. Get a standalone.

- Reviewed in Canada on September 1, 2022Verified PurchaseI love this. - Reviewed in Canada on June 29, 2020Verified PurchaseI've used a lot of knives, compasses, firestarters etc. while camping in my time, and I was impressed with how solid each component of this gizmo was. All the compartments have an o ring to seal them, the whistle is loud, the blade is sharp, as is the glass breaker. If you want to carry a few tools that might help you out in a pinch, this seems like a safe bet!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this thing
Verified PurchaseI'm not going to claim to be an expert on SHTF equipment, but from 2001-2007 I worked search & rescue and DMAT (disaster medical assistance teams) first for FEMA then Homeland Security, so I do know a little. I honestly love this thing. It's the size and shape of an overly thick pencil, light enough to stick in a shirt pocket without pulling at the fabric, and solid enough to put a hurt on someone if need be (to the reviewer who referred to the self-defense aspects as a joke, take a class on how to use a kubaton or hand-flail and then get back to us). It starts fires. It whistles for help (and irritates my neighbors dog). It cuts, scales, shaves, sharpens, whittles, etc. It tells time (sundial style with compass). And FINALLY an easy to carry pocket fishing pole that doesn't feel like it's going to break if you actually catch a fish with it. I'm not going to comment on the glass break feature... anything harder than glass is a glass-breaker. You could break a window with the whistle part, the whole thing is a metal glass breaker. The only alteration I made was to replace the included paracord with an equal length of Tacti-Glow Survival Cord (with incorporated fishing, tinder, and copper snare wire as well as the 7 strand core), same length as the provided cord was already suited for self defense use as a hand-flail. It's light weight but solid enough to hurt (a good whip strike on bone and the other guy is going to feel it). Like I said at the beginning I'm not going to claim to be an expert, but I could build Gilligan's Island with this thing. I say "thing" to describe it because I don't know whether to call it a tool or a toy but I'm going to be playing with it a lot. I'm ordering more for my jacket, glove box, and "oh sh*t" bag to go along with the one that's going to be in my pants/shorts pocket at all times.
It doesn't have and doesn't need an LED light on it. Literally everything comes with an LED light nowadays (my belt buckle has an LED light built into it). If they want to make any improvements on the design, figure out how to make it play the James Bond theme song while it shoots darts or a grappling hook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good gift for dad/men/outdoors people
Verified PurchaseIt's got so many little things, compass works, the flint, emergency fishing gear, mini blade, punch, whistle, cord.
I looped the cord into whistle so as not to lose that end. Havent tried the whistle yet but it seems fine.
It's good for big hands, bigger than my Friendly Swede 9 in 1. This sulkada has a solid punch for breaking glass or stopping a bear for 1.3 extra seconds.
The lead fishing sinker rattled so I put some paper towel in it. Cotton would be fine too (as it's good to start fire and stopping rattle). I could probably fit a few waterproof matches or a water purifying tablet.
Good gift to keep in hiking pack, car glove compartment, day hike, off shore, fishing, etc.
Don't know if can be brought on flight. Blade is small but lately they reject tiny ones too.
Arrived on time. Good price.

4.0 out of 5 stars More tools
Verified PurchaseThis thing is great, and I'd give it 5 stars if not for the following modifications. I took off the compass with landyard completely, my thinking was if SHTF and I need to get out of a vehicle ASAP I'm gonna gonna fidget with it to remove the compass to get to the glass breaker, I prefer the glass breaker exposed. I wasn't worried about removing the compass since it's liquid, has 2 small bubbles, and doesn't really point north. Since I removed the compass and lanyard I improvised a way to attach it to a keyring by glueing and attaching two 75 pound black cable ties slightly below the whistle and above any unscrewable parts, time will tell if that was a good decision. If I was to design one I'd make it so there was a keyring whole able the whistle and leave the glass breaker exposed. I've had another similar tool with an exposed glass breaker, but I bought this one because of all of its components. On a positive note it's thicker as compared to my previous one and has more SHTF items I hope are strong and usable. 4/5. Looks strong, time will tell if it's good, as I'd just bought it, but so far I'd buy it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good survival tool that may come in handy if the need arrises
Verified PurchaseThe survival tool arrived in an inmarled black box which makes for a great gift because they would never know what's inside of it. The tool comes with about 2 feet of paracord which also doubles as a lanyard for it. The magnesium stick works well when used with the blade on the tool. As far as the blade is concerned, it would be sharper but would be handy if the need arrises. I will probably replace the fishing line with a braided line jist for durability but the included line would be very useful and works. I would suggest checking the line and replacing as it ages but this goes for all fishing line. Over all, I believe this survival tool covers the basics and is good for anyone just getting into this sort of thing or would make a great gift idea!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
Verified PurchaseI bought this to keep in my car and to carry on bikes. None of the accessories are really useful or helpful. You need to carry the box with you which defeats the purpose. I ended up putting it in my recycle bin.
