Q. My child is allergic to citrus, will the probiotics be safe?
A. If your child has allergies or reactions to concentrated lemon juice, it is possible that similar reactions could occur with the lemon flavouring since it is extracted from natural sources.
Q. What is used as the medium to grow the probiotics?
A. We use a vegan medium that is proprietary.
Q. What are the spots that sometimes appear on the surface of the Advanced Gut Health Probiotic Kids tablets?
A. The spots are caused by ascorbic acid (vitamin C), which we use as a natural antioxidant to help to keep the tablets stable. Over time, the ascorbic acid oxidizes, which darkens the colour and appears as small spots on the tablet. But don’t worry, the tablets are still completely safe to take even when spotted!
Q. Can I break it up and give the probiotics in water to my baby?
A. Advanced Gut Health probiotic kids are recommended to children over the age of 3 and are best taken as recommended—by chewing! We cannot recommend that the tablets be modified to be given to a younger child, because we must abide by Health Canada’s guidelines by age.
Q. If the probiotics are chewable, why doesn’t stomach acid destroy any bacteria. If it does destroy some, any idea how much?
A. Advanced Gut Health probiotic kids is made with carefully selected acid-resistant strains. We then use an innovative tableting process to protect the viability of the bacteria from production to consumption. (While encapsulated probiotics do help to protect the bacteria, delivering them safely to the gut, it can also cause them to be inaccessible across much of the upper GI tract—including the oral microbiome.)
