- Reviewed in Canada on July 17, 2023Verified PurchaseThe hoppers, a good size the edge guide works fairly well. Just don’t think that the edges perfectly straight where it’s shooting the particulate out of the hopper. It has metal turners in the bottom, dual hopper drop of the fertilizer so that the old plastic ones were garbage as the gears would wear out in no time. I bought two as mentioned above because the price was so good. And please to this point as I’ve done my 2 acre lot a couple of times and gives a better spray area. I think I’m about 7 feet or more so less walking as it has a dual spreading device under it compared to a single.

- Reviewed in Canada on August 24, 2018Verified PurchaseWork well and good construction. Only problem was the trigger to hold the hopper open did not latch but for my small area did not matter too much. Overall a good product.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 5, 2022Verified PurchaseSo far I love this speader east to set up and use. The app works well for mapping out your lawn and giving new comers to the lawn care industry some helpful tips and guidance.
Only con is I wish it had air tires as I feel the plastic are cheep and won't last.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 20, 2021Verified Purchaseeasy to assemble. Dialed to the recommend opening, dumped a bag of Scotts Fall fertilizer, went putside and spread it. EasyPeasy

- Reviewed in Canada on July 5, 2024Verified PurchaseI gave this product 1 star. That's because I can't give it zero. I bought in April 2023. Used it 4 times... to spread grass seed and fertilizer. Took it out again in April this year. I noticed that there was still some material left over in the spreader from the last usage. I cleaned it up with a hose, not realizing how dumb that was. Every bit of material in the spreader turned to a paste-like material, completely clogging the rotor and the holes in the bottom. I spent a lot of time trying to get that paste out completely. No chance. I even widened the holes to see if that would help, nope didn't work. And then, as I pulled the trigger, the trigger broke. It locked up right against the handle. When I finally got it loose, it would no longer open the holes.
Pure, absolute, unmitigated junk. It's sitting out on the street now. I'm hoping the junk man takes it away.
- Reviewed in Canada on December 24, 2024Verified PurchaseFlimsy hunk of junk that spreads terribly. Not Worth what it costs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Most people put on too much fertilizer.
Verified PurchaseI used to work for Scotts/Trugreen and I can tell you that applying liquid or granular fertilizer is an art that takes some practice to not stripe a lawn. Too many homeowners think that it's a one and done treatment. A couple of tips;
1: For inexperienced homeowners, stick to a 10-0-10 EXTENDED RELEASE type of fertilizer. You only need the Phosphorus part on a new or reseeded lawn.
2: Apply at the recommended rate or less for your spreader. Practice on your driveway to see how far your spreader throws it at a normal pace. Try not to overlap too much if at all.
3: Plan on spreading a normal or weak mix every 4-6 weeks from early spring to late fall in the snow belt. Never walk on frozen grass.
4: Whether you use liquid or granular, it needs to be watered in. If you don't water your lawn between the rain showers, don't even bother fertilizing as your lawn will never look good.
5: Use a granular fert with premergent as your first application. This will stop most weeds and Crabgrass from emerging in the first place. Pre_emergent is a SEED GERMINATION preventer. It does not kill weeds that are already sprouted and growing.
6: Do not spread new grass seed in the spring as the pre-emergent will kill it and you will also need to water the entire seeded area weekly all summer. Wait until the fall. (Sept. Oct.) .
7: Don't bother with granular weed killer/fertilizer combos, which is different than Pre-emergent/fert combos.
8: When using liquid weed killer, only spray where the weeds are. Anything else is a waste of time and money. Weed killer is a CONTACT KILLER and needs to hit a weed that is already growing.
9: Aerate or Aerate/Overseed every fall if your budget can handle it. If you overseed, make sure you give it plenty of water between the raindrops and stop using weed control after seeding.
10: If you overseed, only spread seed on an area that you can water weekly, every week, if it doesn't rain. If you have a big lawn, you will probably not water it all every week and the new grass will die off.
11: Don't scalp your lawn. Lawns should be 3-4inches. Cutting it short during the growing season can actually make it grow faster to get back to a healthy state. A longer lawn is cooler, retains water longer, and lets less sunlight penetrate to the soil where the weed seeds are lurking.
12: Don't expect instant results. If your lawn has been neglected for years or more, it can take 2-5 years of time and money and water to get that golf course lawn.
13: Try to water in the early mornings. You want the water in the soil before it gets too hot. Watering at night will promote damaging fungus on your lawn.
14: Water is the most important, (and most neglected), part of a healthy lawn. If you can't or won't water between the raindrops, don't bother with fertilizer as it will be wasted. Use preemergent once in the spring and spot treat for weeds as needed.
15: Plan on spending $500-$1000 an acre, (or more), for a perfect lawn with fert, weed control, mowing, trimming, aerating and watering. How much depends on how much you do yourself and your local climate.
16: If you can afford it, put in a programmable underground sprinkler system. It will save you time, water and hassle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great spreader but missing one important pin
Verified PurchaseThe Scotts Elite Spreader—-This is a great spreader! It easily handles a big load and is easy to push; easier to push than the mini version.
I would have given this 5 stars but it was missing an essential part. The Elite has two gear box’s that attach to the axil. There is suppose to be some part like a pin clip that attaches the gear boxes to the axle so that the when the tires rotate, the axle rotates, which of course rotates the gears, which rotates the the spreader plates, shooting out the fertilizer. But the gear boxes were NOT attached with a lock pin or any kind of pin. When my spread arrived in the mail, I needed to use it immediately. It was easy to assemble the wheels to axel and supposedly was ready to spread. I put in fertilizer and began to push the spreader on my grass. But no fertilizer was spreading. I pushed the spreader on to the sidewalk to see what was the problem. I eventually noticed the gear boxes were not attached to axle. The instructions listing the parts only had hardware for attaching wheels to axle; no lock pins of any sort for gear boxes. So gear boxes should have come already attached. Fortunately I have collected years and years of screws, nuts, bolts, washers, and lock washers. I was able to find two skinny screws the fit the holes and nuts, washers and lock washers small to be able to attach the gear box’s. Not the perfect solution but one that worked. The picture attached to these comment shows you that screws were longer than needed but at least were skinny enough get through the holes. So it was an easy fix. However, the Scott’s product inspector should have caught this before it was shipped. That’s their job (assuming Scott has inspectors)! Obviously the product was not pushed to see if it actually worked! Or maybe the inspector was jamming to some tunes with their ear phones on and assumed the product worked fine because other inspected worked fine. There seems to be a lot of that kind of quality anymore. But once I fixed that, this elite spreader worked great. I’m very pleased with it and would recommend it to anyone. No doubt if purchased from a local store it would not have this problem, but probably would have would have cost more.
