Usually when I order it there's some sort of packing paper or something to pad the box - this last time I ordered there was no packing and the seal had burst and maple syrup had leaked and dried on the bottle. Luckily it was still pretty full so I don't mind keeping it, but it's possible that it could have leaked out all over the place and that would have been a big drag.
