I'm a strong believer in "taking the tool to material" concept. That's why I bought the Wen track saw for starters. This Makita track saw is, as expensive as it is, a significant upgrade over the Wen. The unit is simply built better. The dust collection is better, I no longer get sawdust all over my face and chest. The gliding motion is much much smoother than the Wen, even on Wen's guide rails. You probably don't need the Makita track or any fancy gadgets like track clamps or parallel guides. A speed square and a $40 Wen track and you're good to go.
The only drawback is the depth gauge is in millimetres only and doesn't account for the saw's arbor height.
As far as track saws are concerned, I would argue you're better off with the Makita since you're far more likely to be using it. Also you're not stuck with Festool's proprietary system a.k.a. money pit. This saw is just within the upper budget limit for most weekend woodworkers. It's also electric so it's lighter and you don't worry about keeping the batteries charged. Highly recommended.
Update after 1 month's use:
The most important factor is still the dust collection. I have used the saw on softwood, plywood, mdf and hardwood. So far the dust is minimal as long as you have a vacuum or dust collector hooked on. I've also found out I need to subtract 5mm from the dial number to get the truth blade depth. I recommend getting the wast side jig for this saw at 2.2mm for precision cutting. You can find them on Esty.
