    As a person who has done amateur recordings since the late sixties, I've used everything from cheap cassettes to this. This digital recorder makes very good recordings. Of course you need software to tidy up if you want to make them better than decent. Learn to apply compression. You need somewhere to start and this is a very good, very inexpensive way.

    It’s really too bad that this model has been discontinued. It’s customizable but also has quite decent automatic settings for simple setup by non-techies. Excellent sound quality for recording music. Also works great for broadcasting acoustic instruments and vocals over video calls (e.g. Zoom concert) without needing a whole sound setup. Highly recommend.

    Zoom makes great handy recorders. This is no exception. Amazing value for the money, def a really good product for under $200!

    The small screen is small. I have bad eyes. I'll survive
    The tiny speaker is terrible and tinny but I'm REALLY glad it has one. listen to playback on headphones and/or good speakers and it's sooo good (for what it is)

    Wish I could rename files.

    All in all, if you are recording band rehearsals or song ideas etc this is perfect. Usually pretty good for capturing live bands performances but in that case I'd be more likely to use more pro audio stuff. pparently makes a pretty great podcast mike...

    but this one, after paying $160, still cannot test it yet, since SD card not included, no memory - for this price one or the other should be included.
    amazon prime takes 5 days to deliver, plus additional 5 days for the card?

    I'm a longtime producer, musician, and field recorder. I got this thing because I wanted a purpose-built device for field recordings and sampling runs. This device is very capable in a number of ways, but it is also simple and fast to start recording. I use it to record everything from wildlife to rain and wind, weapon clangs, gunfire, whatever is good for using in a song or video game. I'm very happy with the accessibility and sound quality.

    I no longer have to postprocess my field recordings because this device has a great signal-to-noise ratio and responds well to most forms of clipping (they sound musical and not harsh). The frequency response is wide and even distant sounds (like wind in the treetops) sound exactly like they do to my ear. I have been trying to record that sound for a few years now and this is the first device good enough to really capture it.

    My only concerns are about durability: The device seems sturdy enough but I've got to make sure to keep it in its case while transporting it around. Rain, blowing mist, etc. may damage it so I'm playing it careful.

    Overall, a great little device! It's compact, it runs on AAAs so no worry about onboard batteries giving out, it does the thing very well, and it can be deployed quickly enough to capture elusive sounds like birds.
