This is a nicely assorted set of embroidery hoops, covering most of the sizes that I, at least, am likely to use. I did have a set consisting of three pairs of very large hoops, but they, along with hoops similar to this Yixhua set, somehow got lost when I moved here. I am really glad to have been able to replace this part of my previous collection. I find that embroidery hoops are useful for more than artisitcally creative needlework. I use them when I am sewing patches onto torn or work-through garments of almost any kind, and I have even used them to help with mending worn socks, although a darning egg or billiard ball is better there.
I checked the tightening screws on all five sets, and they function smoothly, allowing enough spacing for securing even somewhat heavier fabrics. Next, as I do with Mason jars, I ran my fingers all around the surfaces of all ten hoops. Unfortunately, in every pair, I encountered at least one or two rough spots, and even some small splinters. These flaws are not serious enough to compromise the strength of the hoops, but they definitely could snag threads. It would have been nice to find perfectly smooth hoops, but honestly, I have found similar minor flaws on hoops in the past. I know some sewers switch to metal hoops in order to avoid this problem. However, I have a couple of remedies. Depending on the size of the bad spot, I either find some very fine sandpaper to smoothe the surface, or just coat it with clear nail polish.
I expect to enjoy using these hoops for many years. They are not perfect, but in spite of the minor blemishes, I still think this is a good product.

Bamboo embroidery hoops. I like the variety of sizes, very handy. These are useful for stitching as well as using them for frames. I wish the main tightening screw was not so large - its quite big and not a 'pretty' colour. The bamboo does have a few splinters/snags that I'll probably sand off before using these. Maybe its just the nature of bamboo, but its nice not to have plastic! No odor associated with this product. Pen is for size reference.
