I have just recently received this, so I can't actually attest to its longevity. So far though, it is the best electric sharpener I have used. It's quite a bit bigger than I expected, which is a good thing. It definatley will not need to be emptied as often as any of the others I have used (or even seen for that matter). I love the fact that it can adjust to sharpen different size pencils, and that being electric, it won't constantly be needing new batteries (something that also justifies the cost of this being on the high side).
I'm currently using it mostly for coloured pencils, and since a sharp point is quite often needed I can see this being used regularly. With the sharpening of coloured pencils in an electric sharpener, it's important to sharpen a regular graphite pencil now and then to lubricate the blades (which is something I need to remember as well).
I know the cost of this sharpener is a little high compared to most others, but I do think it's worth the cost (at least so far). Even if it does fail at some point in the near future, it does have a great warranty. In this instance, I believe "you get what you pay for".
